Motor gets Hot

I'm not familiar with the treadmill specifically, but here is some general information that might be helpful. When a motor is under heavier load, it draws more current and therefore gets hotter. If for example, you were able to stop the motor shaft from rotating with an extreme load, it would draw what is called STALL CURRENT which is very high. So the problem seems to be that the load is out of specification. I'm assuming it would probably get hot if it was running with nobody on it as well. That would mean that the drive mechanism driven by the motor is not moving freely. If you can somehow decouple the motor from the treadmill drive system so that it has no load, and then move the mechanism by hand to see if it feels like there is a lot of resistance in the belts, pulleys or whatever drives the treadmill, then you need to lubricate to make it move smoothly. Or if you cannot decouple the motor, just look for all the bearings and pulleys and lubricate those but be careful not to get oil on drive belts or surfaces that require friction such as the surface of the belts or treadmill band. Don't ignore that the motor could get hot enough to start a fire so it is important to resolve this. It is possible that there are shorted windings and the motor is no longer good. If you can decouple the motor and run it no load, and it still gets hot, that would be an indication of such a shorted winding problem. Hope this is a little helpful. G

My nordicktrack exp1000 runs for about 20 minutes, starts to smell like its getting hot and will shut itself off, can I fix or do I have to buy a new treadmill

Step 1:

this happen because the lack of LUBE, do it

Step 2:

1) troubleshoot the main motor see my personal TIPS for motor help
2) test the output voltage board, for input voltage motor, if there are NOT the board is faulty. see the block diagram.

My heritage 56 inch industrial fan gets very hot after a short time running i am very sure that it was wired correctly. just dosent make sense that the motor gets that hot.

mcdevito75 here, The fan motor should get very, very warm to a bit on the hot side, in other words not so hot as you can":t keep a hand on the fan motor. Also if you have other items on the same circuit as the fan, lamp, A/C unit this added load can cause fan to get hot, also wear and age on the fan contribute to heat. -------Check wall switch, feel if that is also getting hot or very warm along with the fan, if so you may need a new fan.

Overheating/burnt rubber smell

classical sign of a bad motor. the motor has a thermal switch on it telling the unit to shut off when it gets hot. after it cools down, the switch will tell the motor to turn back on again. good luck, i'm pretty sure that's your problem. contact me for further help if needed. thanks :)

Motor on washer smell and smokes

there is a contact switch in the washer down by the motor that determines which motor function that is needed gets energized. If one of these contact weld them selve closed then the motor can potentially operate on two different functions and burn up. Look to see if this is the case and if not contact me and theres other things to check.
