Re: how to set document feeder on top to work?
Recommend that you have the technician come back out and reseat all the connectors he removed when in stalling the new circuit board. One connector mite not be seated properly or a connector pin was bent!!!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

The doc feeder is the one on top, there's a sensor in the hinge at the rear. If the tab is broken from the top cover, you need to fold a piece of paper and put it inside the horse shoe shaped sensor to get past the error.
Common problem with these models.....most likely if it sounds like it "tries" to feed you original then the feed rollers need to be cleaned. On the front left corner of the document feeder cover there is a single screw. Remove the screw, open the F1 door and the cover will come off. Now right where the originals feed in you will see 4 feed rollers or small "tires" The 2 smaller ones or the usually the main cause. Just take a cloth with some glass cleaner on it and rotate and cleaned both sets of tires. Reinstall the cover and you should be good to go.
Using your scanner program such as PaperPort, you really have to pay attention on where the document/photo is located for scanning.
Steps 1. Click on Start, Programs, Paperport 2. Right above the Word "SCAN", you will have several options on; a. Document or Photo b. Flatbed or Feeder 3. Once step 2b has been selected, the M20i will scan your document per your instructions.
Note:#1 If you place your document on Flatbed but your selection on your screen says "Feeder" where do you think the scanner will look for your document? The answer is --> Feeder!!!
Note #2 Make sure that you click Accept,& DONE, other wise M20i will just sit and wait for your next command.
I hope this resolves the confusion between GLASS and FEEDER scanning.
Document feeder error means that the printer is expecting you to have a document in the ADF "automatic Document Feeder" on top. If you are having this on the laptop, go into the scanner set up on your laptop, and change the device from document feeder to flatbed. It should work fine. You can also mimic the settings from your desktop to your laptop. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
Open the toner door and remove the cartridge
Turn the machine off
Open the document feeder by pulling straight up
While turning the machine back on, hold down the pointed switch actuator closest to the small glass
Close the document feeder..display should read "RAM INITIALIZE"
Scroll down to "SHIPMENT SET"
Press "2" for "NO"
Wait for the machine to reboot (could take 5 mins)
Some times a bad toner cartridge will cause this.
If this does not work, you have a bad Main PC Board. Uneconomical to repair.
