SOURCE: DHR- 1000

Recently repaired one of these with what appeared to be a power supply problem; found several defective capacitors on the drive board. The symptoms were similar to what you are seeing.

SOURCE: DHR 1000 problems

sounds like a keyboard problem, but check all the electrolytic caps -- bad caps sometimes produce strange symptoms.

Can't download

USB bad. If the footage is on hard drive rather than tape just browse the camera or import rather than capture. If difficulties seeing the hd maybe use a card reader known to work with mac. If it is on DV tape you need to connect to a dv / hdv out to fire wire, if this camera doesn't have one you will need to borrow some one's who does.

Sony DHR-1000

The timer/display control IC501, located on the FM 26 board (right behind the display tube) is likely bad.
the part number is 8-759-368-84.It will NOT be an easy part for an average consumer to replace. You would be better off looking for a complete FM 26 board A7066705A.

How to get footage from a sony handy cam on to a PC

Sony does not support older camcorders that worked with USB on XP but no longer work with either firewire or USB on Vista. The work around I've used on Vista is to only install the Sony driver which is available from http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/downloads/downloads.aspx?&f=usbdrven_vista&site=odw_en_GB You only need the Sony driver to use another programme to capture the video. FX Vidcap works well on Vista via USB. http://www.jhepple.com/video_capture_software.htm
