SOURCE: ACER APSPIRE 5742 TAKE ABOUT 10 TIMES TO BOOT UP.

If there is extreme heat inside the laptop, this happens. Clean the fan and put new thermal pste/thermal pad to processor and chipsets. Also check for power button problem or any stuck keys in the keypad.
Hope this helps

It keeps shutting itself off ?

When does it shut itself off? Is this happening time you press the power button and during the boot cycle it shuts off without completing the boot to windows? If it shuts down after you've worked on it for a while it could be that it is running hot. If you let it sit a while to cool off then press the power button, if it completes the boot cycle and allows you to work it is definitely running hot. Normally when they run hot if you immediately try to reboot, it will fail. If you let it cool off it will boot successfully. Computers run hot because of a fan not working, dust clogging the fan vents or the Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heat Sink has become hard or too thin to keep the unit cool. If it's not running hot you might have a power supply or motherboard issue. Try removing the power cord and press and hold the Power Button for 30 seconds to release any Static Buildup. Then plug the power cord back in and try to reboot.

Laptop keeps shutting down immediately after trying to power up

Check the battery ..If the battery is not capable to keep power anymore..this will happen ..but the shut down will not be instant ..if it is instant than to blame is the cpu cooler ..probably it does not work anymore..and teh cpu gets to teh max temperature right the way and shuts the system down ..To fix that is to replace the fan ..
another thing that you may check is teh ram memory ..sometimes if you make changes on them and they do not match perfect with the rest or so ..it makes issues on boot up .Just remove them all and try them one by one if they are more than one ..This way you will knwo if one is defective ..cause will not try to boot up ..If non seam to be affected ..just plug them well and start over cause it is possible to be just a matter of not making contact well and after you remove and place them back ...to work perfect

My laptop crashed and now will not boot up how do i get it to boot

Try This :

Need tio perform a recovery ... Which is formatting the entire hard disk and re installing the OS
This will end up loosing all your data
You need to disconnect each and everything connected to the notebook
SHut down the notebook completely
> As soon as you turn on the computer keep on tapping the F11 key (Instantly)
It will show the "Recovery manager "
Click on Advanced option
Select System recovery and click on next and complete the recovery .
If the F11 doesn't work need to purchase the recovery disk from HP (Ph. No.: 1-800-474-6836)
This will surely resolve the Issue

Unexpected shutdown with fresh battery ...only cycled 23 times so far. Mac shuts down after about 3 minutes....then shuts down on boot sequence after that. No warning...just shuts down instantly. Macbook...

"Shuts down instantly without warning" is the hallmark of a faulty battery. "All five lights on" is meaningless, as batteries with this fault go from 100% to 0% in a finger-snap. Assuming your battery is under warranty, it should be replaced at no charge.

Compaq f756NR laptop won't boot.

I think this is a problem with the laptop's LCD display. To verify this connect the laptop to an external display and see if it resolves the issue. If it does then its confirmed that its a display related issue. Since the issue has appeared suddenly I dont think its a serious problem. May be just loose/disconnected connectors. Should be a 10 minute job for a qualified technician.
If the external display too doesn't come on then its an issue with the graphics card and you may need to replace it.

Shuts off at boot up screen?

Start the computer in safe mode (tap F8 immediately after turning it on until you see the option of how to boot)

If it successfully boots into windows, you have an issue with either driver conflicts and/or viruses. If it still restarts itself, you most likely have a hardware issue (bad hard drive, motherboard, etc)

Laptop not booting

sounds like you have not only a vista issue here, but a potential boot sector virus...if it won't boot from cd, then there's a major issue with that machine.Fujitsu to the rescue, looks like to me
