Duplex paper jam . i thought i took out the paper that was jammed and i am still getting that message, PLUS now I cannot the top tray back.

The duplexer, which flips the paper to automatically print on the back side, slides into the back of your printer. Unplug the printer and slide the duplexer out to check it for jammed sheets. You might have pulled out a sheet or two in the main printer section and left one in the duplexer.
As for the top tray, the paper feed wheels ride on the end of a long lever that drops down to rest on the paper. It should be held up out of the way by a spring until the drawer is inserted, but sometimes the plastic nub that the spring pulls on breaks off. Lexmark sells a little kit of the spring and "bellcrank" to fix it. If your paper tray holds 500 sheets - a whole **** - you need part no. 56P1331 "Parts packet, bellcrank and spring, 500 sheet." For 250-sheet trays the part number is 56P1337. A web search for either part number will find you a seller.

Paper jam

Hi. This could be sendor is failing or there is a jammed paper on you printer.

How to removed jammed paper

1.Unplug all cables (USB and power)
2.Turn around the printer
3.In the back there should be a small door that on my printer (SCX-4300) flips upside.
4.Look for any jammed paper.
5.Pull out the jammed paper.

Here's how to fix the sensor

Unplug everything from the back and then remove the four screws from the back panel. Pull the panel out but watch that the on/off switch doesn't hang the cover up.Once off, I removed the screw from the mount holding the right end of the sensor stick while holding the mount in place with my finger. When the screw is out, lift the mount up and carefully slide it off of the stick. Carefully rotate the spring, topside away until the left side of the spring catches the sensor piece. Now rotate the other end of the spring once more around the stick and while holding it at the top of the stick (12 o'clock) slide the mount back on. With the mount in place, release the spring and it will come to rest on the mount. Refasten the mount and check for light tension on the sensor. If it pushes forward when you release it, you're good to go. Refasten the back panel, attach all wires and enjoy.

Have a good one!

Printer says jammed , cleared printer completely, still says jammed , no evidence of jam, disconnected printer, reconnected, ,still says jammed,

The possible reasons for this could be
  1. (For Laser Printers Only) Toner sediment in the fuser unit. This specially occurs if you constantly use smaller paper sizes than the paper tray size. To resolve this you should disassemble the printer, take out the fuser unit and clean the toner sediment. The sediment can get rock solid so clean it carefully. If you are not accustomed with electronic components better visit a technician.
  2. The paper sensors pulling spring may be detached. In this case the sensor gets a message that some paper exists in the fuser unit so a paper jam message is triggered. Fix the spring and you are done.

Constant Paper Jam

I have the accordion paper jam problem as well, almost all the printout got jammed. So I opened the back panel and unscrew 2 screws and take out the part with the small plastic roller and clean those. Then I also see a rubber roller on the ceiling of that area and cleaned and rubbed them with a damp cloth and rolled them several times. Now it's been 2 weeks of jam free printing! Back to being happy customer...

usually it means that a sensor in your fuser is bad. If you have a P.M. Kit replaced the fuser and clean the printer.

but before you do, make sure that you have cleared all jams, including in the fuser.

Its probably time for a Preventive Maintanence

Printer jams

Have you checked the paper path for anything which might be lodged there? A small crumpled piece of paper, paper clip, or even some broken piece of plastic from inside the printer itself. Are the rubber rollers extremely dirty/covered with paper dust? Depending on the design of the printer, one set of rollers may be spring loaded, and if the spring is broken, disconnected etc, the tension on the roller of course goes away. Anything like this will prevent proper paper movement through the printer
