To select inputs you should have its remote control. If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service center, or authorized dealer to your device brand.
To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls.Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability?Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its user manual.Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. If you see the sites by "MOSAIC" view, will make surf easier.

I have a sanyo tv the channel is stuck on video,i bought a cheap universal remote from dollar store.did thhe code still dnt work what can i do

If you spend a few more dollars, approximately $10 you can get a Phillips universal remote control from Walmart. I have had plenty of success using them on Mitusubishi, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Sylvania, Pioneer TV's, receivers, DVD players, and never had a problem. Just remember that once you enter the code, you need to change the "source" or "input"on the remote control. I am assuming you already checked, but I'll throw it out there anyway, you might be able to change the source or input directly from the TV itself.
I hope this helps and good luck!

My sylvania tv wont change inputs. I lost the remote so is there another way to change it to av.

You have to have the remote to change inputs on this set. Probably a universal remote will work good.

I have a Universal Remote but can't get the tv into Video Mode.

Try TV/Video button on your universal remote or some similar button that'll change the input, also try connecting to back ports of TV.

Emerson Spongbob tv broken remote...cant change input?

Then the only way to reach your tv is through coaxial antenna port. So you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your red yellow and white cables (rca cables from a dvd, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me.
