Kinetic speakers are generally 8 ohm, so they should work fine with the Onkyo.Your amp has a rating of 80 watts per channel, but I'm not sure of the power handling of the speakers.

Intermittent sound

Try a digital coax or optical for audio and see if that helps, you will still get all the benefits of HDMI video but perhaps no audio issue, ensure your kit is running up to date firmware. If that don't help play with the connections try a different HDMI cable, different VIDEO source or try the connections with a different AMP .
Hope it helps... :)

Individual speaker leads are not fused. It's possible the switch is defective. Does it light the speaker B indicator? If not, I'd suspect the switch.

If it DOES light the Speaker B indicator maybe there's an open circuit going to the Speaker B terminals. Or its common ground for that speaker pair alone is open.

Trips and switches off

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

The best way to fully isolate the fault is to disconnect all the speaker wires, and verify that there are no strands of wire shorting between the speaker terminals on the rear of the unit.

Turn the volume all the way down, full CCW, and if it goes into shut down with the STBY light blinking then there is a fault in one of the amplifier's.

Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can be of further assistance please ask.

some surround sounds do not put out loud sounds except from the front speakers only. Try using different inputs to see if it makes a difference.

Onkyo TX-SV 727 PROTECT mode

Generally, this happens when there's a loose connection somewhere, either internally, or with the connections. It usually happens when the volume's too loud, and it tries to protect itself.

I'd suggest you unplug everything from it, check all the speaker wires, and then try turning it on, without any devices connected to it.

If it works, turn it off, and reconnect devices, one by one. That should fix it.

If not, it's likely that there's a loose solder inside, and it needs to be sent out for service.
