Question about GE 7-5290 Clock Radio

Poor FM Radio reception - intermittent static

My GE Spacemaker under-cabinet FM radio has a signal reception problem. Static will increase, decrease or disappear intermittently, and the static changes or disappears depending on where I stand in relation to the radio. When there is no static, the sound quality is fine. Over 6 months, the problem has been steadily worsening

WHY DOES MY 2004 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR HAVE EXCESSIVE RADIO STATIC ON AM?

As suggested it could be underhood electrical interference. If the "static" changes with increased rpms (rev the motor to find out) chances are it is ignition related and could be literally everything from the alternator to the ignition coil through the distributor cap, but best bet is the spark plug wires (which if still original really should be replaced anyway) or the plugs themselves. If your am static doesn't change with engine revolutions and your fm works okay I would check antenna and the antenna connections at the base of antenna and back of radio. if you cant even get a clear signal on the most powerful AM station in your area, I would bet on some kind of break in the connection between radio and antenna. p.s. if you;ve anything plugged into cigarette lighter or other 12volt outlets in the vehicle unplug them before doing any of the rest!

Fm works, am does not

Check the antenna connection. A poor connection will often be good enough for FM but make AM reception so bad the the radios auto-gain circuits will mute the output unlike old AMs that would just produce loud static in poor signal conditions.

AM and Fm radio reception poor. Suspect bad ground since radio and antenna have both been changed. The static sound while on AM increases when I press the accelerator. How do I isolate an intermitt

static sound on AM band can be reduced by the adding of a capacitor to the alternator terminal. Check the coax cable especially the outside braid is connected to the body for earth

SL100 static and bad FM reception

I have noticed various changes in my invehicle FM reception as well. There should be a external antenna that came with your car kit. This is precisely for these types of issues. It is designed to run along the windshield inside the car closest to the Cars radio antenna. It should plugin to the bottom of the cradle. Then tune it into a clean FM station (one that has no local station on it) and position the cradle and/or ext. antenna till you get the best reception in your vehicle. It could very well be that the antenna has come has loose on your car stereo backplane. You would probably notice decreased reception on regular AM/FM stations as well though.
Your wifi reception/functionality is a completely different animal and has no bearing on the FM transmitter in the car cradle. When your on wifi your not receiving signal from a sat. anymore just simply streaming internet audio like your computer.
Good luck.

Ge spacemaker radio model 7-5402 problem

OK, I found out what the problem is.
ON my GE 7-5402 Spacemaker under-cabinet radio, the FM was only static. I've opened it up and there is a component which is failing. When I used a heat gun on the circuit for about 5-10 seconds, it started working and it stopped again when it cooled off. After some time I isolated which component it was that needed the heat in order to work. Here's where to find it:
  1. Remove the top (25 screws of various length)
  2. With the LCD facing you, look to the right of the CD-drive close to the large aluminum cooling fin.
  3. There is a single transistor with markings of: "D2012" and "6:R".

This transistor is the problem and I believe if it is replaced, the FM radio should work. I'm going to try it and see what happens. I think I found the right one online for less than $1.
Hope that helps you guys!
