I have the replacement keyboard for the gateway NV54 laptop. I need basic instructions on removing the old keyboard and unstalling the new keyboard. Can anybody help because Gateway can't help so far.

All them are pretty basically the same. Pull out power cord and battery... Remove the bezel piece top of the keyboard "the thing the power button sits in". When you remove it there should be 2 screws very tiny holding the keyboard down remove them. Under the keyboard there will be the power ribbon DO NOT JUST PULL IT OUT!! There will be like a brown/white clip that locks the ribbon to the board. The brown may be black or even blue that is the locking piece. Carefully lift the clip up and gently pull the ribbon out. If its stuck you have not unlocked it. Pull the old keyboard out and repeat the steps backwards.

Type the number but no function

if you hold down the ALT button and then hit a number key to access the function printed above the number and it just prints the number, then the ALT button is not working, usually because the contact is dirty. you can remove the keyboard and clean the switches. to do this - first remove the two screws behind the platen, in the holes. then pull apart the case slightly, and gently, where the cord storage area is on the back of the machine. while doing this locate the latches on each side of the machine (inside) in the middle of the opening, on the top of the case, and pry out on the bottom of the latch, carefully, with a long screwdriver until it releases and the case starts to come apart. do this on each side. now the case will be fastened only at the bottom of the keyboard. to unfasten the four latches here you have to push down on the case, right under the keys, and pull outwards at the same time. if you don't do this properly some or all of the latches will break. now that you have the case off and set aside, you can see the latches that hold the keyboard down. pry these outward while pulling up on the keyboard, untill the keyboard comes loose. now you have to pull the keyboard cables loose from the cirduit board. the flat cable at the left just pulls straight out, to remove the other cables, first pull up on the white part of the connection the cable are plugged into, then the cables will come right off. to dissasemble the keyboard, just pry the plastic latches at one side of the metal plate on the back of the keyboard, and work your way across, untill you get the plate off, pull the rubber pad off and clean the contacts with microfiber cloth or lint free cloth and alcohol then assemble parts in the oposit order. or take it to a repair shop or get a new one.

Keyboard broken on my Acer Aspire 5520

For the Acer Aspire 5520 I'm working on, (Acer Aspire 5520-5156, mode nol: ICW50)

Remove the three black screws under the battery, not the silver screws.

VERY carefuly pry off the power button cover. It will make 'snapping' sounds and if you where gentle nothing will be broken.

The keyboard has no screws holding it and can be slid toward the screen and very gently pryed out, taking care not to tear the ribbon cable, as mentioned before.

When the keyboard is out the cable can be released by gently pulling the cable lock on the header toward the cable, the thin (black in this case, it's usualy a different color than the white connector) plastic part of the connector I just use my fingernails, one index finger on each end slowly pulling till it releases.
Pull the cable out using the pull tab. You can just pull the flat cable out with the pull tab without releasing the calbe lock but you stil need to release the cable lock to properly put in the new cable, then push the cable lock back tight to the connector.

How to remove keyboard

These are the steps you need to take to Remove the Keyboard for D631 Dell.:
  1. Remove the hinge cover.NOTICE: The hinge cover is fragile and can be damaged if extreme force is used. Be careful when removing the hinge cover.
  2. Open the display all the way (180 degrees) so that the display rests flat on your work surface.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the hinge cover, do not lift the cover on both sides simultaneously. Removing the hinge cover in a different way than described may cause the plastic to break.

NOTICE: The keycaps on the keyboard are fragile, easily dislodged, and time-consuming to replace. Be careful when removing and handling the keyboard.

3. Remove the three screws at the top of the keyboard.

NOTE: Lift the keyboard carefully to ensure that you do not pull on the keyboard cable.

4. Ease the edges of the keyboard out of the small detents on the sides, then slide the keyboard slightly forward to free the keyboard tabs from the palm rest.

5. Rotate the top of the keyboard forward and away from the display, and lay it upside-down on the palm rest to gain access to the keyboard connector.

6. If the keyboard cable is held in place by a locking arm next to the keyboard connector, carefully spread the retaining bracket away from the connector so that you can pivot the locking arm upward to release the cable.

7. Pull up on the pull tab to disconnect the keyboard cable connector from the keyboard connector on the system board.

Arrow key in my laptop keyboard was pull out help!

If you are unable to align the key above the place of removal and get it to work, very low chances that you will be able to fix it back in place (The pivot lever below the key is usually broken) - Better off paying for a replacement keyboard.

Removing D7830 keyboard

To remove the keyboard you don´t need to remove the bottom.

Look at the first row _F KEYS_ With a small screwdriver you must pull 3 fixing points, left -near F2-, middle and right.
Pull between keyboard and case, these will release keyboard up.

Pulling there you can pull out keyboard.

I need to frequently clean the inside of my Acer 5610-4534 laptop...I have never disassembled one before; can you help me to get it open?

Insert a small flathead screwdriver under the keyboard bezel and carefully lift it up. Continue releasing plastic latches and removing the keyboard bezel with your fingers

65c2000.jpg
Be careful, on some models the bezel might be connected to the motherboard as it shown on the picture above. If you accidentally pulled the cable, connect it back. It is not necessary to disconnect the keyboard bezel from the motherboard in order to remove and replace the keyboard, just put it aside so you can access the keyboard screws.

8d145ef.jpg
Remove three (or more) screws from the top of the keyboard. Carefully lift up the keyboard from the laptop case

2e7bf96.jpg
The keyboard connects to the motherboard via a flat ribbon cable. Before you pull the cable from the connector, you’ll have to unlock the connector.

ad447a7.jpg
The image above illustrates how to unlock the keyboard connector. Carefully move the connector lock 2-3 millimeters up and after that pull the keyboard cable. To install the keyboard, follow the above mentioned steps in the reverse order.
