Question about Onkyo ht-r640 - Av Receiver Ht-r640

Open Question

My Onkyo HT- 640 Receiver has sound through all external satellite speakers in DVD mode, but on TV mode the receiver screen reads "V3 NO SIGNAL" and no sound through external satellite speakers for TV

Not sure if I should have the S-Video plugged in or just the HDMI. Both are hooked up now. The manual does not specify either way.

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR606 getting no sound from HDMI sources

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR606 HDMI Input

The problem is the hdmi board in the receiver .they are having trouble with the smd regulator and smd capactors that they are using on the board, they have updated the new boards as i have not got any back when replacing with the new boards. I have replaced at least 35 hdmi boards on this model. If you call Onkyo they will tell you that you have a hdmi board bad and take it to an onkyo dealer.

I have an ONKYO HT-S3305 which transiently 'cuts-out' the sound - lasting only seconds (hooked up to TV/satellite HD receiver) Seems to start after about 1-2 hours after switching on. Not the signal...

It sounds to me that some part of the circuit possibly an IC is overheating after several hours and develops a fault.
This will be a very tricky thing to track down. So maybe best to take it to an authorised service agent.

This is a rather uncomplicated satellite receiver, and basically only has a left/right audio out.
You can hook these into any of the stereo type inputs on the HT-RC230.
This receiver is also the "wal-mart" brand of Onkyo (not their best stuff) - so I suggest you take the L/R audio out on the DVR and put it into ANY available (cd/tape/dvd) stereo input on the receiver.
You aren't going to get better sound out of any specific input.

I have an Onkyo HT-S6100 home theater not sending picture to TV.

I just fixed mine with the same problem. Apparently, the HT-R667 and 606 receiver that comes with 6100 has a problem with the HDMI board. Onkyo wanted $500 dollars to fix it, costed me $16. Here's how to fix it. http://www.highdefforum.com/high-definition-receivers-recorders-players-tivos/121956-repairing-onkyo-htr667-aka-606-a.html

I have a Onkyo HT-S6100 sound system which has the HT-R667 receiver. I have a DirecTV dvr hooked up with hdmi, a PS4 hooked up with hdmi, and a Wii hooked up through component cables. The receiver is...

My HT-S6100 had a similar problem with my DVD player and some times with my Cable/DVR box. The signal wasn't getting received at the TV. So, first I changed the input jacks my DVD and Cable box are plugged into on the receiver (e.g. from HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 to HDMI 2 & HDMI 4). Second, I reprogrammed the Input Assignments to match (e.g. HDMI in 2&4). Third, I deleted any Input Assignments that weren't applicable. For instance, I'm only using HDMI connections, but there were Digital and Component Input Assignments programmed in. When I say I deleted them, I actually set them to "----" (just scroll through the options and you'll find this.) Finally, I turn on my video/audio sources (PS3 in your case) and let them load/warm up before I turn on my Onkyo receiver. It seems to be working. Good luck.

Connecting TV and DVD for surround sound

HDMI is fantastic in that's the only thing you need to plug in to get what you want.
You'll need two of them however. Plug one end of the HDMI cord into the HDMI "OUT" on the dvd player and the other end of it to the receiver..labeled HDMI 'IN' Then, take the second cord and do that step with the receiver back to your big screen...HDMI OUT to IN.
Surround sound from TV sources only needs a L&R audio cable connected to the receiver input labled TV or MONITOR audio IN. Unless you'd like 5.1 dolby digital or DTS from the television that requires devices that you haven't mentioned owning. In that case you will be able to get Dolby ProLogic and Pro Logic II from stereo broad casted sources on your TV.

Trouble with the hooking up wiring for receiver, DVD/VCR combo and satellite to new DLP TV.

Jar50, lacking model numbers for your TV and Satellite, I would suggest connecting your DTV Satellite OPTICAL out to your 65"DLP. Connect your 65"DLP OPTICAL out to your Onkyo TX-DS484 OPTICAL in. If you are using the DIGITAL COAX, just substitute the instructions above from OPTICAL to COAX.
Hope this helps.
