HP Compaq NC8430: Laptop does not want to charge battery

Take the battery out, plug in the charger and see if the laptop works. If it works, the battery may be the problem. Check the AC Adapter
Check to make sure the adapter is plugged securely into the wall outlet, connected firmly to the adapter box and to the back of your laptop. Most AC adapters have a little light in them on that rectangular box in the middle of the cord that lights up when it's getting electricity. If that light isn't on, try a different outlet. Check your fuse or circuit breaker box and plug a different device into that outlet to make sure there is power to it. If it still does not light up, your adapter could need replacing. Also check the adapter box for signs of warmth, as it will generate heat when it's plugged in. No heat means no power.

Remove the Battery Sometimes it's as simple as a seated battery. Remove the battery entirely and clean out any dust, lint or hair that may be clogging the connectors and preventing a proper connection. Reseat the battery securely and make sure the little locking pins that hold your battery in place are securely fastened and there is no movement.

My laptop wont turn on without a charger

If your laptop works fine while plugged in but stops working while unplugged it's likely that either your laptop battery is bad or your laptop is not charging the battery properly.

Below are steps that can be taken to help identify the cause of this issue. Leave power plugged in
Make sure the computer has been charging from the power plug for at least two hours before attempting to unplug it.
Remove and reconnect battery
In some situations the battery can become loose.
Removing it and then put it back into the laptop. Third-party utility
Use a third-party battery utility to determine the total capacity of the battery. For example, BatteryCare is a free software utility capable of doing this.
Replace battery or AC adapter If your computer is still in warranty we suggest skipping to the next step.
If the above steps have been completed, we suggest replacing the battery in the computer or AC adapter. In most situations it's a bad battery.
Hope this helps.

What'My laptop works fine when I have just the battery but when I plug it in it does not work even without the battery. Could it be the Adapter cause all my outlets work and so does the battery.s

if the charger cannot charging is the problem, then you need to repair the Battery management software, because you say that the battery is working, then the error should be on the software, that it doesn't indicate that the battery is charging, first go to Device Manager (Right click My Computer, select Properties, click Hardware, click Device Manager) by type "Device" on the start menu and select Device Manager
Expand the Battery categories and right click on Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .

My computer was working fine, but I lost my charger. I bought a universal charger and used it for some time. One day I plugged the computer in and the light on universal charger lit up until I plugged it...

I think that your battery is soooo flat it may be no good, take battery out, THEN connect the Correct adapter, and see if that works, if it does, then ya do need a new Batt, or perhaps a good long10-12 hour charge first, with NO use at all during that period.

I HAVE A DELL INSPIRATION 1525 AND AND BOUGHT A NEW 9 CELL BATTERY BECAUSE IT WAS NOT HOLDING CHARGE, EVEN WITH THE NEW BATTERY ITS DISCHARGING WHILE PLUG IN AND IN USE WHAT MUST I DO.

There are a few possible problems. First of all, check out whether it works fine with a different adapter. If it works, then replace the adapter. If the same problem persists with a different adapter too, then try this. Shut down the laptop and carefully remove the battery, check whether any dust particles there, clean it and put the battery back and try charging it. It should work fine. You have not mentioned whether your laptop lasts for more than 1 hr inspite of it saying the battery level is 40%, if it lasts then, there is no problem in your laptops battery.

Inspiron laptop Battery won't charge

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not,
Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not,
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

Want stay charged

Sounds like a bad battery cause its not keeping a charge. Try a new or known good battery and see if it will charge and then unplug the ac adaptor to see if the laptop stays on.

If the laptop stays on with a different battery charged then your old battery is bad. If your laptop doesn't stay on with a known good or new charged battery without the ac adaptor hooked up then its a bad motherboard.

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Battery or ac adapter problems?

Sounds like you were cheated out of your money. Hopefully you just need to replace you Power Supply Cord and it will work fine because my guess it has broken wires and that caused the shutdown. If this does nit work, Your motherboard has been short circuited and this will never be fixed, it needs to be replaced and this is costly so it may be better to get whole new laptop. Buy a new Power cord and maybe a new battery if you feel you need to, but if they don't work, your laptop is dead
