Your camera can handle SDHC cards, up to 32 GB. If you bought a 48 or 64 or even e bigger SDXC card I don't think it will work in your camera. I'm not sure Nikon could release a firmware update, so it would be compatible with the SDXC cards.
Always check f all contacts are clean and not a speck of dust is in the memory card holder.
Also check if the lock switch is in the UNLOCK position. Like the 64GB card on the left.

How do I get my internal memory pictures out of camera. I forgot to put the memory card into the camera,

Take the external SD card out of the camera if it is attached.
Connect the camera to a PC (I use Windows 7).
the camera should auto detect and your in-memory pictures should be available in Windows explorer -> My Computer -> P100 -> DCIM folder.

Hope this helps.

The card is part of the main board, but you can likely add one to the expansion slot if it has one.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My P100 says 'card cannot be used' and no matter what card you put in it says the same. Card is NOT locked.

format your SD with NTFS and then insert it to the camera, it will ask to reformat with the camera. just say OK.
