Vizio P50HDTV10A goes into sleep mode

I've had my Vizio at the TV Repair shop for three weeks, he just informs me that it keeps going into the "sleep mode". I think he should know how to fix this but I've had it, I brought it in for another reason and missed Super Bowl so now I'm picking it up, he says it is fixed but just in case it isn't...I understand it might be just a issue with a "live" port is this correct and if it is, I read to switch ports, ok but what if I don't want to watch a video or my chrome cast and I need to leave it in the port my cable provider puts the digital cable into? Will switching back and forth let the TV know it's alive? Sorry I'm a bit confused

SOURCE: vizio tv not turning on

Are you getting any power (vizeo in ft of the set should be amber) If it is not you will need to replace the power board . If the set powers up with no picture then you will have to replace the main board.

SOURCE: Vizio L32 32 in. HDTV LCD HDMI input not working

I recently had the same problem with my vizeo hdmi port # 1 going bad. Tried everything to fix and called vizeo. There solution for a master reset was turn off tv and unplug from the wall. then hold down the power button for 30 secs and let go. plug the tv back in and hold down the volume down and input select buttons down on side of the tv for 15 secs. release the buttons and turn the tv on after powering down all the components connectd to the tv. If this does not work they told me you need to have it sericed for a bad hdmi input. Hope this info helps anyone out there. It didn't work for me. Its a bummer cause the tv is well taken care of and only 18 months old. Best of luck to all others.

Im using my tv as a monitor, when i turn on my music and then leave the computer to do chores, the computer goes to no signal and i cant listen to my music, how do i keep it from doing this?

Sounds like either your computer is in hibernation mode or your TV is set to sleep, what type of connection to your computer are you using? I do believe in this model Vizio there is a sleep option on each of the Video sources. But I would guess its your computer going into either sleep mode or in your running windows 7 Hybrid sleep mode.

I bought the Vizio TV at costco in 2007, early on it would turn it self off, but the problems stopped until lately. Now when I turn the TV on it will shut off in approx 3-5 minutes. I contacted VIZIO and...

Usually this kind of problem is caused by either the backlight/inverter part of the circuitry inside, or a bad solder connection inside somewhere.

Unfortunately you've done just about all you can try without taking the TV apart for a professional type of repair. It is a very strange part with flat screens that simple and unconnected changes can change how they behave (such as you changing the mains lead). The lead won't actually fix it at all, but I do see many I repair here that last longer when not used on extension cables and that type of thing. Eventually they all fail completely though, and need either resoldering or parts replacing inside.

With yours, because it stays on for a few minutes, it's most likely the inverter circuit. Some go faulty completely, but others just last a few minutes and then shut down, so your TV screen just goes black. The TV will then usually go back onto standby mode (or off completely).
If it's a dry solder joint inside, then they tend to work for a while till the screen gets warm, then the solder moves a fraction of a millimetre - just enough to break contact 100%, and the TV turns off.

The size of this type of TV means they are quite complicated to fix, mainly as the insides are so complicated to even take apart. Smaller flat screens are quite simple inside, but everything above 22 inch LCD types is made very differently.

I suggest finding a repair shop to get a repair quote on that inverter check/replacement. It's likely to be expensive, but worth it for such a size of TV.

Sorry i don't have any better help than that, hope you manage to get it fixed.

How do i get my vizio out of deep sleep?

That's funny :-)

How do you define "deep sleep" ?

What happens when you press the power button?

We specialize in Vizio 50HDTV10A and other similar 50'' plasma repairs and I am not ashamed to admit this is the first time I hear "deep sleep" associated with those TVs :-)

Deep sleep mode on digital tv

We turn off the TV. Turned it back on using the tv turner remote that comes with the set, we push the HDMI1 mode button immediately! Must do before it goes to Deep Sleep mode. You should not use RGB mode as this will cause the problem to repeat. (Vizo HD 50") Keep trying if doesn't work the first time. You have to be ready and quick to get the mode HDMI1.

No signal...deep sleep

Go to main menu, turn off sleep mode, then find the "autoprogram" feature and select it.
THis will program all available channels, just make sure you tv is set to AIR for regular tv and CATV if you have cable.

The thunderstorm may have reset the television. Hopefully there is no damage done to the tuner
