Pioneer Receiver Vsx - 3900s audio cuts in and out

The audio plays through one speaker and the connections are fine. I've noticed that walking around it in certain spots changes the quality of the audio.

SOURCE: Center Speaker Audio Very Distorted

Love your screen name.

You didn't say what, if anything, preceded the appearance of the problem. There might be a clue.

Can you describe the distortion? Is it excessively bassy? If so, is it happening on all sources?

I'm assuming this is a modern digital receiver that is capable of many soundfield simulations as well as native Dolby Digital, DTS, multi-channel. If so we can use a stereo source and through simulation redirect some of it to the center speaker.

Using one of your receiver's many multi-channel simulation modes, put in a CD or tune an FM station and use it to diagnose the problem during later steps.

If it's only a single source and that source uses individual analog channel RCA cables, swap in another one or temporarily move the Center Channel feed to one of the other channels to see if it's before the receiver (in the source).or inside the receiver.

For multiple sources:

Is your Center speaker defined properly as Large or Small in the receiver's setup menu? The size refers mostly to the bass-handling capacities of all your speakers rather than their physical size. Speakers designated as 'Small' will not be sent much in the way of bass because they can't handle it well. The LFE/subwoofer channel(s) will get all the bass that was intended for them instead.

If you have a Small speaker improperly defined as Large it may be getting bass that it can't handle and that might sound like distortion. Having a Large speaker defiend as Small would result in less bass than expected but otherwise 'clean' sound.

Check the speaker setup in the menu for excessive volume level relative to the others. There is usually a calibration procedure the receiver will use to help you adjust the subjective voume of each speaker using white noise or tones.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Speakers are cutting out. Checked connections to

You might have bad solder connections where the speaker terminals attach to the circuit board inside the case. Mounting screws inside holding circuit boards in place may also have become loose. Often there are ground connections that depend on these screws being tight.

You may also want to check your speaker wires. The wire may be making a poor connection at the terminal. Try cutting a couple of inches off the end, stripping the wire and reconnecting.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

Check for crushed , damaged and shorted speaker wires at the terminals of both the amp and speakers and over the entire length of the wires. Clear any shorted connections and replace damaged wires. If still persisting, you may need to have it serviced.

How to make a Pioneer vsx-816k/s last longer

I really don't recommend this product to anyone, or any newer pioneer products for that matter (except the elite line). This model has the "hybrid" design, which is a very flawed design. At first the speakers will start cutting in and out, and then some of them wont work at all, and then the receiver will flash "overload" and the receiver will go into a permanent protection, all because the receiver cant handle the resistance of the speakers(doesn't matter what speaker it is). Once in protect mode, press ENTER+ ADVANCED SURROUND and it will tell you what the problem is causing it to stay in protect mode. In order to keep this from happening, use external amps. Pioneer wants around 500 dollars to fix it if its out of warranty, it will cost at least 50 to fix it yourself, in most cases it will cost 150 to fix it yourself (most cases all 3 power modules will go out, or as pioneer calls them, power packs). If you have an older vsx model (50s-80s) then it is usually worth fixing. If your having problems with pioneer vsx 3600, 3700s, 3800, or 3900s, send me an email at Joshadk@embarqmail.com and i will help you the best i can

I've got a vsx-920-k Pioneer receiver with s-11 Pioneer speakers and a s-21w Pioneer subwoofer. All of a sudden my sub stopped working and it seems like it's stuck in standby mode (blue light...

The manual is here...

http://www.pioneerprodj.eu/eur/products/42/99/S-21W/media.html

Flashing Blue is not defined in the manual.

Have you tried changing the Auto Standby switch to ON?

You can prove if the sub amp will respond to a known good input by TURNING ITS VOLUME DOWN tp start and just feeding it ANY RCA output from the receiver while playing, say, FM (to keep it simple). That way you would known in which direction the problem actually lies (internal or external).

Have a pioneer VSX-D603S and just added bose 100 watt speakers. As i turn up the volume the speakers keep cutting out. Not very loud before it cuts out. What can I do?

What model of Bose, how connected on what channels? Do you know the impedance? If they came from one of their all-in-one systems you're playing with fire (almost literally) mixing them with non-Bose amplifiers.

Have a Pioneer VSX-1018 receiver. When I connect

You speakers are out of phase. Check to see if the polarity is correct on the receiver and the speaker. Positive (red) with positive, negative with negative (black). Also check the impedance of the speaker, it should be located on the back of the speaker measured in ohms. Make sure that your receiver matches the impedance of your speaker. You can find this in the settings of the receiver.

Low Audio Level

When I had problems with my VSX-D608, I resorted to downloading the manual for VSX21. This model seems to have the same features in the ELITE form. It has helped me figure out some speaker problems.
