My Axim X51v battery cover seems to have come lose and the warning continues to appear. Can this be easily fixed? Is it a hardware problem or software problem?

I had exactly this problem before. It seems that the extruding bits under the cover were a bit worn so that they failed to consistently activate the sensors below. I cut two pieces of sticker and stuck to the moving parts below and the problem has gone (for now).

Why do I get a battery latch open warning Axim x51v

There is a sensor on the latch that detects when it has opened. Over time, the sensor wears down. You can put a dab of glue on it (so that the button presses down even further) or fold a tiny piece of paper onto it. You can find the sensor right above where the latch is, after you've opened the back cover.

I have a dell axim x51v, I does not stay operational

seems to be some problem with the battery itself. Try charging it fully and then check. Does the battery dip when the phone turns off?

Dell Axim x51v that will not power on.

Assuming the battery is not dead, try taking the battery out for a few seconds to be sure the PDA is turned all the way off. Put the battery back in and close the back. Use the stylus to hold the reset button in (on the back) while you press and hold the power button. If the battery is dead do this while it is connected to the charger. It should diplay a message telling you to press the mail button (to the left of the cursor control button) to the reset to factory defaults. Caution this will erase everything in the built in memory including any programs you installed after you recieved it.

Hope this helps

You may want to look at updating the ROM. There may be a fix in a later version of the ROM

paper wedged in the sensor sometimes work. More extreme is 'surgically' removing the switch and connecting it up.... see aximsite.com for a guide.... otherwise take it to a technician.

Dell axim 51v

I have the same problem. Its from an over sensitive switch. You arent actually opening the battery case you are pressing against it. This triggers the switch and makes it think you are taking the battery latch off. I haven't actually tried it but you could open up the Axim and cut the cable going to that sensor/switch?

Dead - no response

Hi, I am looking for a battery related problem solution on my own Axim X51v, but it is different than yours. One thing I wanted to share with you is that I know if the battery cover lock button is not in the locked position (slid to the right) it activates the "battery door switch". I have occasionally received error messages on the Axim when I turn the screen on and it has missed sounding an alarm. it will say "the battery door switch was open, so the system was put into "sleep mode" to preserve data from being lost" or something like that. So I believe that the position of the latch is crucial. In my case, I think the switch gets dirty. When I get the warning, I slide the switch back and forth a few times and then it stops bugging me for sometimes several months.

So, if you do not have the cover on, then your latch is probably open, and the door switch will be sensed as open. I am not sure what Sleep Mode really does, but I'll bet it will make the Axim appear dead. At the very least, try sliding that latch back to the right. However, I would replace the door, because only friction actually holds the battery in place unless the door is on. It could fall out when you least expect it. Then I think you would lose any unsaved data, and if your internal backup battery was not up to the task, you could lose everything. I hope this info helps you out.

I'll go post my own problem now.

Dell Axim x50v - Battery Latch Problem

Hi Guys

Here are some photo's of the before & after showing where the sponge will be when your Dell PDA is faulty (not booting up or battery latch warning messages & where it needs to be repositioned to, the photo's should be self explanatory, I used some double sided tape to refix the sponge but super glue might work but don't blame me if it runs into the latch mechanize & gluing it up for ever, this does really work & better than messing about with the PCB. I have posted more details on this forum just search for the title ""Why do I get a battery latch open warning Axim x51v"

Dell Axim X51V

I have the same problem. I've found that the Innopocket magnum case will hold the cover in place and pretty much stop it doing this. Unfortunately, the case won't fit if you have an extended battery. I've tried taping down the cover with some success, but the hard case worked better.
