Question about Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64BIT Operating System Software OEM DVD

1 Answer

I went to the start button to restart my computer on windows 7, but noticed my shutdown, restart and sleep buttons were all white and I couldn't use them. How do I bring them back?

I tried to restore my computer to the default settings, but that didn't work. I also typed in gpedit.msc, then pressed enter and nothing appeared as I was told it would. I just want to be able to use my shutdown, restart and restore options again .

Acer one with windows 7 ultimate fall into sleep mode

A laptop computer is typically set to conserve battery power. One of the common settings called standby, sleep mode or hibernation turns off power to the screen and the laptop itself after a preset time limit passes without any mouse or keyboard activity. It can be inconvenient for the computer to shut down while you're working on an open page or during a download. Change the setting if you don't want your laptop to going into automatic shutdowns

Turn the laptop computer on with the power button if it's not set to turn on upon opening. Allow the system to boot up. Open the panel for adjusting the sleep settings. This varies among the popular versions of Windows operating systems. To change the sleep mode setting on a laptop running Windows XP, click the "Start" button, and click the "Control Panel" selection. Choose the "Performance and Maintenance" selection, and click on "Power Options." Click the "Power Schemes" tab, and click the drop downs next to "Turn Off Monitor," "Turn Off Hard Disk," "System Standby" and "System Hibernates." Select "Never" for each drop down in both the "Plugged in" and "Running on Battery Power" columns. Click the "Hibernate" tab and click to remove the check mark in the box next to "Enable Hibernation." To change the sleep settings on a Windows Vista laptop, click "Start," "Control Panel," "Systems and Maintenance" and "Power Options." Then click "Change Plan Settings" under the currently established plan. Click on the "Advanced Settings" tab and select the "Never" option on the "Sleep," "Sleep After," "Hibernate After," "Display" and "Turn off Display After" drop downs. Click the "OK" and "Save Changes" buttons to confirm the settings. To change the sleep settings on a laptop running Windows 7, click the "Start" button, choose "All Control Panel Items," select "Power Options" and click "Edit Plan Settings." Click the drop downs for "Turn off the Display" and "Put the Computer to Sleep." Choose "Never" for both and click the "Save Changes" button.

How can i reboot my computer please

Rebooting a computer means, pressing the Reset/Restart button. But if you wish to securely restart it, click Start (Windows XP) and then "ShutDown" button, again click "Restart". There's another option when Windows XP is in Classic mode, once you press the Shutdown button, you'll see a small window showing "Shutdown", you can click the arrow button next to the "Shutdown" and then select "Restart", now click the "Ok" button to restart the system. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, click "Start", if you don't see the "Restart" button, you might be seeing the "Shutdown" button, just next to the "Shutdown" button, there's a small right arrow button, click it and select "Restart". Your system will restart.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

How can i reboot my acer laptop

Press Start(ORB at bottom left for vista/w7) and if you're on windows 7/vista, there should be a list button on the bottom right side of the start menu saying "Shutdown"(windows 7) and "Sleep"(Vista), click the list and click Reboot.

On XP you need to click the Shutdown button and before you click shutdown instead click Reboot(Green button If i recall correctly).

I am happy with my N150 but is there a single button to switch off the computer other than going to "start" and "shut down" which may last several minutes in the process and more if...

The default action for the Power button on the start menu in Windows 7 is shutdown, and in Vista is Sleep, which isn't necessarily useful for everybody, so we'll explain how to change it here.
Change Windows 7 Shutdown Button
clicking on the start menu and choosing Properties. All you need to do is change the drop-down for Power Button Action to whatever you would prefer.
Change Windows Vista Power Buttons
You can configure this setting easily by using the advanced power settings panel, which is a little tricky to get to normally, but we'll take the shortcut.
Open a command prompt (type cmd into the start menu search bar), and then type in the following:powercfg.cpl,1You could also take the long route (Control Panel \ Power Options \ Change Plan Settings \ Change Advanced Power Settings)

I just bought this hp laptop and noticed that it goes off just like that, after running for a while. What do I do?

First thing I would try would be to turn hibernation mode off. Could be it's going to sleep on you. If this is windows 7,
1. click your start button
2. click control panel
3. click hardware and sound
4. click power options
5. click change when computer sleeps (on the left)
6. put both to never using drop downs
7. save changes.

see if that helps. then just turn it off manually.
also might want to check with hp to see if there is a fix for your issue. good luck

How to shut down dell inspiron 530 computer - the button only takes computer to sleep mode

I assume you use Windows Vista.....
In vista the default action of the power button is configured to sleep mode..
So to shutdown the PC you can press "Start - right arrow - right arrow - right arrow - Enter", or you can navigate to the same using the mouse & selecting shutdown from the list besides the lock icon.
You can also change the power button configuration this way goto " Start-Control Panel-System and Maintenance-Power options-change plan settings (under the current plan you are using) - change advanced power settings - Power buttons and lid - Start menu power button" click on settings and select shutdown, apply & save the settings and close this window.
Now you can just click the power button to shutdown your computer.
