Zebra GK420t flashing red after every print

My Zebra printer receives print jobs, prints them, but then it throws out about fifty empty labels before starting to blink red. Then it wouldn't do anything until I restart it or open it. If I open it and close it again, the light double flashes in green, and if I press the feed button in this state, it throws out endless empty labels, until I open or restart it or the roll is empty. I already tried to flash new firmware version via ZDownloader, and I also resetted it via Zebra Setup Utility, but with no success. This happens since I first resetted the printer after some other weird behaviour: Back then, it never printed more then 4 labels, and the text never was in the center of the label. Always after 4 labels, i got the same error as now, with the red flashing light The behaviour is the same for printing via USB or network

It sounds like you have tried all the right things and are on the right track.

(You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure)

here are a couple of simple suggestions to try for a quick fix

Try this...
Rollback or update your driver
Click on Start, open Printers and Faxes then push the F1 key on your key board.
This will open the Help and Support Center.
Now type in drivers in the search bar, this should bring up most of the information you need to update your printer drivers.

Not getting anywhere...
Try this... Unplug the printer and any other additional device connected to your PC.
Check that you have the original installation CD for the printer, then
Uninstall all the printer software

Restart your PC and DO NOT plug the printer back in yet.
Install the printers software from the CD.
It should get to a stage in the installation and ask you to plug the printer in, do this now. after that just follow the instructions on the screen and you should be up and printing again.
You may need to restart your computer after installation is complete, its OK to leave the CD in the player (unless you are instructed to remove it) and leave the printer plugged in at this stage.

There are a lot of variables, other options and other ways of doing this, so if you have the patience keep reading up on it and trying different things.
good luck

Testimonial: "Thank you for your answer. I tried your solution, but with little success The printer driver was already up to date, however I uninstalled and reinstalled it, sadly with no success. After that, I unplugged the printer, uninstalled the Driver, the Setup Utility and the ZDownloader, rebooted the PC, installed the Setup Utility, connected the printer when it was asked for, and it installed the driver. It didn't do this when I first installed Setup Utility, and I had to manually add the printer back then. But still, the printer acts weird in the same way, first it prints what I send, then it just lets out about 40 empty labels before flashing red. This happens every time I try to print anything"

I'm sorry to hear that its still playing up! I cant think of anything else, but maybe try a different cord, Different Jacks or anything else that's possible to swap or replace without to much trouble. Good Luck

Seems its loosing calibration, try to reset to factory defult setting and it will calibrate with the labels that have at the moment. Please check settings at windows drivers (should be set up at Thermal transfere if using ribbon otherwise Direct Thermal if not using ribbon.
That issue can happen aswell if when sending a job to the printer with wrong settings, it will overrwrithe the previose settings of the printer.
you can untick the setting " use printer settings" at drivers as well.
if you need diferent driver go to www.seagulldrivers.com - this driver let you to resett printer to factury defaults. Hope it helps.Paulo.

Hi, when I try to print to a networked GK420t, it prints the first page then feeds two and a half labels and then flashes a red light. At which stage it completely loses network - pings time out.

The problem that you are facing can be resolved by doing a reset on the printer and then setup the printer on the network again. This will resolve the issue.

You need to add the ^POI or ^PON command to your format on your host system. Look it up in the manual to see which is right for your app.

You could also get labels that are wound the other way on the roll. Inner wound vs. outer wound.
