Few things you could try:
1: Right click on my computer> Properties> Go to advance> System settings section> uncheck "restart windows automatically" .
2: Try clean boot steps: run>msconfig>boot>services>hide all microsoft services> and uncheck all the services and than restart the computer.
now, try to activate services one by one and check if any particular service cause error, if any than uninstall the program associated with that.
3: Run system file checker if OS is above windows xp. For that go to CMD and type sfc /scannow.

Your operating system might have corrupted, try reinstalling window, if problem persists then it might have processor cooling problem, check the fan on processor working fine, or sometimes it can be a problem due to RAM, try removing you ram change it... try again...

It may be overheating. Try using a vacuum cleaner hose on the air vents, that will help to clear the ventilation for the radiator.

Restart at shutdown

Hi,

This behavior may occur if Windows stops responding during a typical operation or during the shutdown process. By default, the computer is configured to automatically restart when Windows stops responding. To view this setting, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  2. Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
I can give you anotther solution too

Thanks
Xeeshan

Computer restarts on shutdown

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.

Thanks & Regards
Nandu :)

My acer aspire cooling fan is not working properly so it turns off unexpectedly several times a day.

if the cooling works well the fan gonna shutdown automatic. nothing to worry about, but if it does when the computer is still hot then you need to replace the fan.

when it shutsdown, does it later start by it self?
