It sounds like you updated with the wrong BIOS or a BIOS version that isn't designed for your specific model laptop. You will have to revert back to your old BIOS version.

No screen display on toshiba M70 laptop

Try plugging in to the external monitor again and toggling the video output using FN+F5 a few times. If it eventually displays on the external monitor, but nothing ever displays on laptop screen after trying this a few times, the issue could be with the laptop screen, in which case you'd want to have it checked by a repair shop:

I just plugged a monitor into my laptop and now have two screens. The problem is, I do not know how the separate the two to work independantly of each other. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A665D-5061S.

Try this:
his issue can be resolved by removing the check mark next to "Display Change Service", or by changing the "Display Output" settings in the settings for Toshiba Mobile Extensions using the following procedure:
  1. Click on the Windows Start Menu> Control Panel > Toshiba Mobile Extensions> Display Change Device.
  2. Remove the check mark in the box labeled Display Change Device", or select the correct "Display output".
  3. Click on "OK" to close.
