SOURCE: The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

Belts aren't broke roller still won't roll

Belt dosent have to be broke it may be stretched. It needs around 30lbs of pressure to roll the brush on carpet.
If it dose not roll off carpet at all the brush bearing are locked up. You may be able to remove the roller and check theme. Most likely you wil need a new roller brush.

Vacuum power bar

By the power bar do you mean the roller at the front of the vacuum underneath, if so then what as more then likely happened is the belt has stretched and broke due to the bed sheet putting so much strain on the belt. You will need to replace this by getting a new belt for your make and model and switching off the vacuum and pulling the plug out of the wall first and then undoing all the screws which on most vacuums are underneath the head of the vac. once all the screws are taken out and the top as been taken off lift the roller out put the belt onto the spindle at the back and then place it around the roller and then pull towards the front of the vacuum to hook it back into place. This will be quite hard but it will do it and once on with your fingers push the roller around and few times to let it seat the belt into place and then build it all back up and start using it again. If you cant find out how to undo the head of the vacuum message me and I will try and let you know where each screw is to take out before you can replace the old belt with the new

My roller bush won't turn ever time i put a new

1) you need a little tight the belt, with the bolts of motor.
2) you must shure if the belt if NOT large or short( in both cases the rollers will NOT run. can be slip. or too TIGHT. and BRAKE the motor.
3) the motor you must test for brush, switch, or open winding.
4) put a little lube in the extreme of shaft rollers, see by turning at hand if they run of course unplugged the power cord.
God bless you

I accidentally got a piece of string wound around the brush roller. It stopped the roller. I unwound and removed the string the but the roller is not rotating. Is there a reset button on a hoover tempo...

You could have broke the belt of the vacuum or it could have fallen off. Find the belt and evaluate the condition of it and if it is on track.

Eats belts immediately

HI There,

Usually when the belt breaks immediately, this indicates that your roller brush has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I have never seen the motor shaft being damaged and causing belts to break before. When the roller brush can't spin because it's bearings have worn out, the motor shaft continues to try and turn the belt, but since the belt can't spin the motor shaft at that point burns right through the belt.

To make sure that it's your roller brush, remove the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and hold it using just your two pointer finger tips, holding just the bearings caps at the end of the bar, and not the bar itself.

Try to spin the brush using your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely without resistance? It should spin completely around 3-4 times on each spin. If it doesn't spin, then your bar is bad.

If the brush doesn spin, and it continues to break belts, this means that the belt is being installed incorrectly, and is being pinched by the roller brush. Pull the belt forwards after installing to make sure the brush spins freely.

Hope this helped you,

Brush roller not spinning properly

Hi,
Yes there is a belt and yes it is easy to replace it. There are a couple of screws that hold the cover on and then you can just lift out the brush, get the new belt around the motor shaft and then around the brush. The new belt will need to be stretched tight but that is a good thing....
new belts can be purchased at many grocery stores or vacuum repair shops...

Every so often I get a smell of burning from my g4 Kirby vacuum. I noticed it's when I'm vacuuming a fairly new rug on this house I clean. Should I be concerned?

If it is a smell of burning rubber - most likely your vacuum belt is overdue for replacement.

At this point - remove the brush roller, remove the old belt, clean off your brush roller and remove any string or hair that may be bound up around it (usually around where the belt goes or on the sides), and put on a new belt. Your Kirby should act good as new if your bag is replaced at the same time.

If the brush roller has too much string and hair wrapped around it, many times the brush roller will not spin as fast as the belt is driving it and you will get that burning smell.

Changing the belt

Have you pulled the roller out? Once you take the bottom plate off, the roller should slide out of its slot. Then you should easily be able to access the motor shaft.

Belts breaking frequently

I had the same problem. Broke 2 belts before I got online and noticed this site! What I found was, the roller ends were not turning freely. I had cleaned the hair (nasty) off the roller, but the ends were still not able to spin around without some force.

What I did was, removed the roller and on the 2 ends there are 2 black plastic caps which fit over the bearing, I removed the plastic caps and put a little WD-40 on the bearing, or any industrial lubricant, even new motor oil will work. After putting on the WD-40, I spun the roller end around a few times and the WD-40 lubricated the bearings and Voila! The roller end spun freely!! I put the black caps back onto the bearings on both sides, reinstalled a new belt, it's been working great since.

It saves the cost of a new roller.
