The Sony AW models only came out in October 2008, whereas the AR series started back in early 2007.
There are a great many AR models, and you can judge their degree of sophistication by the last letters of the model numbers. As I remember these last letters are E, M, S and Z, E being pretty basic and Z most highly featured.
The S and Z models tend (but do check this!) to have higher screen resolutions, viz 1920 x 1280 or something of that sort, whereas E and M have fewer pixels. The hard disc sizes vary from about 300 to 640 GB, going up the scale, and also the graphics cards vary, the best possible (on the Z models) being NVidia 7600 or 8600 GT.
All the AR laptops are big, about 3.7 kg weight, with 17" screens. They all have 2 gigabytes of memory apart from the very latest S and Z models, summer 2008 onwards, which have 4 gigabytes.
ARs now (March 2009) are officially discontinued, but you may still find them on line. Prices range enormously, from about £600 to about £1600. They were very well reviewed in their time, though some people disliked the keyboard, which is rather small.
The AW series so far as I know includes only 2 models, one at about £1400 which is very similar to the Z series AR except for being quite a different shape - widescreen, 18.6 inches diagonal and abou 1000 x 1900 pixels - with a higher spec graphics card, NVidia 9600, and another which is similar but about £1000 dearer, because it has a partly solid state disk.
That information is the fruit of my own recent exploration of this topic - I ended by buying a Z series AR. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Sony Vaio laptop dosnt boot
first off check to see that the pins for the powercord is not lose and in need of replacement than check the condition of the powercord itself than remove the battery and clean the contact area where the battery connects to and the battery than replace the battery and start it up and upon startup right click on a blank area of thedesktop and go to
properties than go to screen saver and at the bottom of this you will see power options and ensure that the battery is showing charging if not i would contact ceretified repair facility that can repair this for you ok

Possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS ( operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the back up( CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. If not the OS/motherboard is a suspect. However if there is no response but the PC tends to work slower and occasionally hanging when a program is being executed then you might have to install the OS once again. Install the OS and then an antivirus before the drivers of the PC is installed. Thank You for using Fixya
