I just put in a new 56k internal modem and its working but I can only connect at 33.1 kbps

It probably is not your modem at all. Usually its limited by the computer or ISP you are connecting to, If possible i would try changing the # that you are dialing into and see if you connect at a faster speed. One thing to check is to go to device manager and click on properties on the modem and make sure it is set to max 56K Hope this helps you.

Download's speed

Speed Test — About Broadband Speed Here's some information to help you understand your results. There are a lot of things that factor into your speed test results. Download and upload speeds, backbones, networks, latency, ping times, and DNS servers.
Download is a measure of how fast your connection delivers content to your computer or local area network.
Upload is the measure of how fast content is delivered from your computer or local area network to others on the Internet.
To achieve optimal delivery of T1 or SDSL services, download and upload speed should match or at least be very close. This is very important for applications like VoIP, email, on-line gaming and other interactive programs. Upload speed is even more important if you are operating an email, web or file server at your location.
Kbps transfer rate = kilobit per second transfer rate. There are 8 bits in a byte, so we would divide kbps by 8 to get KB/sec transfer rate.

If no brand/model then your next best bet is to get the chipset number and download a generic driver. The chipset is the largest IC (LSI) on the modem board. Most often, they are made by Conexant, ESS, Lucent to name a few. Once you have determined the chipset number (ex. Conexant HSF1 CX11252-11), google for modem drivers of the chipset number or try the chipset manufacture's website. Good luck and kind regards.

Acer 56 kbps v.92 modem...i cant install modem

Hello there, sounds to me like a softwere problem. Try downloading the drivers again from the website of the make of the modem. Install them again - if you're getting the same message after, Download anti-virus FREE AVG you can find this at this link for windows: Install this run it on a test see what it says and you may find your problem. if not then you could do a deep clean and fully re-install windows xp - REMEMBER TO BACK-UP ANY FILES YOU WANT TO KEEP BEFORE DOING SO. in the meantime good luck Raverbaby keepin it hardcore!!!!! = (htid) hardcore till i die !
