Won't start Cranks, no kick even with ether. 2 minutes sometimes will start. Is there a low oil or other sensor that could prevent it from starting?

Hi there,my 2014 Honda crf250r just cut out on me and now the kick start is stuck frozen!or about 3 days before it happened i felt a dead spot when i was in fifth gear? Almost like i was losing power?

Hi, Graham you may have hydraulic lock caused by excessive liquid in the cylinder or you have squeaked your top end this is commonly known as "HEAT SEIZE" the piston heats up expands and becomes extremely tight in the cylinder bore and usually occurs mainly on 2 cycle engines right after a fresh top end rebuild, but it can also happen to brand new motorcycles, these are rare instances due to better quality control and education. Overheating failures that cause pistons to seize are many and each one should be carefully diagnosed to prevent future repeat offenders and the usual suspects are:
1. Lack of lubrication due to low or no oil.
2. Among the causes of lack of cylinder, lubrication is clogging of lubricator by dirt or waste, obstruction in oil pipes/lines, leaky check valves, leaky pump packing, broken oil pipe/line, oil too cold to feed.
3. Wrong type of oil used in premix or oil tank.
4. Improper premix ratio you should start with 32:1 as a baseline.
5. New rebuild piston to cylinder tolerances set up too tight.
6. Failure to follow proper break in procedures with a 16:1 premix ratio.
7. Loose fasteners causing intake, base, or head gaskets to leak or blown crankshaft seal, failure caused by age, overheating or walking. 8. Holes in the intake manifold bent or warped intake flange or reed cage any stray air coming into a cylinder will cause a super lean condition.
9. Improper assembly of reed valve gaskets.
10. Insufficient warm up time for temperature conditions before wide open throttle.
11. Broken, pinched or cracked fuel line.
12. Carburetor fuel passages clogged or restricted from stale fuel varnish, ethanol sludge, dirt, rust, or fuel level in float bowl too low.
13. Main jet size too small or partially clogged
14. Air filter improperly installed, missing or not sealing.
15. Faulty or improperly adjusted oil pump and or cable.
16. Failure to bleed oil pump after a rebuild/replacement or running oil tank dry.
17. Engine coolant level too low, too old, or improper mixture ratio.
18. Radiator clogged, fins damaged, or faulty cap.
19. No liquid circulation due to failed oil or water pump.
20. Cavitation due to air in oil or coolant system.
21. Water and oil mix due to blown head gasket.
22. Timing retarded due to faulty CKP sensor or CDI.
23. Improper spark plug heat range (too hot) and or gap.
24. Excessive engine load, brakes dragging, clutch slipping, transmission lubricant level too low or viscosity to high.

MTD 638 lawn tractor does not spark on starting. Cranks but does not start. Changed ignition coil and spark plug still does not have ignition

Something must be stopping ignition do u have a oil level sensor on the engine sometimes the sensor goes bad or low oil in block cuts off ignition..

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse spider, my daughter ran it low on oil and it died, I filled the oil and it cranks over but will not start, any type of reset that needs done?

if it has a low oil sensor in the system to prevent damage for that condition , you may be able to reset the ECM program using a scan tool

Hard to start 15-20 or more pull

Extended starting is fairly common as small 2-stroke engines pass into middle age and the possibility of stale fuel only adds to the problems worn or perished crankcase seals and inefficient carburettor diaphragms bring. The problems become more acute when used only intermittently and spend most of the time resting.

A brief spray of ether into the air intake and then a pull on the starter could cause it to fire almost immediately. If it does the trouble is likely to be mostly with one or more of the problems listed above.

Sometimes lubricating oil can accumulate in the crankcase and even a small amount can prevent easy starting or even prevent starting altogether and it is also not easy to drain. Some old 2-stroke engines were furnished with a crankcase drain plug for the purpose of getting rid of a troublesome oil build-up but draining it from a modern engine presents difficulties. Removing the carb and positioning the piston to tdc and leaving the engine laying with the intake port downwards for a few hours allows gravity to do the work.

Good luck!

I have a ktm sxf 250 2006 model and when its hot it is very hard to kick start even with start assist spray and sometimes will not but it will roll start and also when you are at top of each gear mainly...

Using "Easy Start" or other ether based engine starting aerosols will damage the engines in the long run, reducing compression due to engine wear as the aerosol removes the oil traces off the engine bore and stripping the aluminiun from the pistons. If it were an old diesel engine, not a problem.
Check your petrol mixture settings and compression. As if the compression is low it will be hard to start.

Just R&R a motor in a 2002 pontiac grand prix GTP-Supercharged. started up after a few cranks and a shot of ether. But idles very high and when we test drove it shifted fine on the first run but wont...

To fix the high idle, replace the top oxygen sensor. I would drop the transmission pan and change the transmission filter. You can then check the old fluid for contamination and metal filings. Metal filings will clog the transmission filter and lead to low pressure that would cause delayed shifts

I have 1998 saturn sl 2 car starts after 5 or 6

Spray ether into the air intake and see if it still takes 5 or 6 cranks...if it starts immediately, it is fuel related, perhaps fuel presure regulator is bad. If the ether doesn't change is most likely a cam sensor...good luck!

Starting problems

Well its cranking so not the starter and its got the juice so not the battery maybe. Check to see if its got the correct voltage to kick it over. Could be a fuel problem replace plugs wires and fuel filter. Also check you oil level maybe its low and wont start bc its low. I think it has a oil level sensor that may prevent it from turning over.
