SOURCE: internal microphone in gateway turned off, now will not turn on.

You may need to raise the level by going back into Control Panel -> Sound. From there, click the Recording tab -> right-click Microphone and select Properties. Finally, click the Levels tab and raise the level.

I had to do this on mine, too.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Power port for gateway MT6840

First easy check is to stick a toothpick into the jack to see if the middle pin is loose. If it's not loose, try another power adapter to check just incase. If you dont have one ask around to borrow a universal one. Dont jiggle and wiggle the plug with the power plugged in if it is loose because i've seen shorts happen.

usually plugs are mounted onto the mainboard. To get to the main board, you'd have to take apart everything because everything attatches to the main board. The case, keyboard, heatsinks, speakers, and so on must come off before you'll be able to see the power jack. With parts and labor, it comes close to a new laptop.

SOURCE: Opening a Gateway Solo 2150 laptop

here's how to open the laptop case on the solo 2150. i myself have the same computer and learned how to take it apart repairing the power jack. first unscrew all the screws that are visible on the bottom and back of the laptop. also remove the rubber feet under the laptop and remove those screws. after that look at the keyboard and look at the bottom edge of the key board. if you look very closely at the bottom edge you will see little tabs. if you stick a small flathead screwdriver down there you can pry it off. once you have that of you will see a silver panel. next to most of the screw holes are arrows. unscrew only the ones with the arrows next to them. you can then lift the silver panel out. once you have done that you need to locate and remove 6 black screws around the edge of the area that you removed the keyboard from. then carefully unplg the ribbon cable to the keyboard an the wire to the monitor. it should then come off. Good luck.

SOURCE: My sony vaio eb (e series) wont turn on, the power button flashes green! PLEASE HELP!

test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as faulty fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all power and data leads make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

check the CPU central processing unit make sure it has thermal paste and dust free secure seating

also check your computer ram modules and cmos battery make sure it has charge and they are dust free and securely seated some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope it helps

Blue screen shut down now black screen fan running thats about it gateway m6332

Assuming you have already tried the power adaptor and that is ok and the charging port is not loose, I think the problem may lie in overheating. The CPU will stand up to 90 degrees c but the graphics chip, which is cooled by the main fan as a secondary consideration will not.
You should remove the inspection hatch (I think on the gateway models there is a larger hatch under the laptop) and see if there is any build up of dust or debris around the cooling fan. heatsink and radiator / vents. If there is, remove it with a paint brush or hoover.

If this does not resolve the problem/ or the fan is clean, remove each ram module in turn and try booting.

If there is still no signal, try it on an external monitor, if you get a picture, the issue is with a failed screen / inverter or VGA cable. If you do not get an image, I'd stick with my original thoughts that the graphics chip has been damaged

Gateway laptop mx6437 turns on but won't boot

It migt be resolved by a power drain. Disconnect the AC adapter, takeout the battery, and press the power button for 30 secs. Put everything back again and try to turn it on.

If your Noterbook is still not turning on, then you might need a phillips screwdriver, or if its in warranty you might want to take it to Gateway technicians, as opening the notebook by urself might void the warranty.

** Before trying the steps below, disconnect the AC adapter and take out the battery.

Turn your notebook upside down, and look for bays, look for screws which has a rectangular comb like structure next to it, unscrew it and you will find RAM chips in there take it out and put it back in. Do this for all the chips you have in the notebook.

Put everything back again and your Notebook might be up and running, else there might be some hardware issues and you need to go to gateway or some local tech.

Gateway nv52 won't turn on

I also had this problem. I turned it off and it would not turn on. I found the solution. First, extend the laptop screen as far back as it will go. Don't just stop the screen at a ninety degree angle. My laptop screen pulls back to about 135 degrees. Now press the power button. It should start up.

Why do I think this works? Well...I used to own an older model thinkpad that had a short "male" connector on the screen, that when the screen was folded down would enter into a "female" connector on the base of the unit and trigger sleep mode on the unit. This is how the system could automatically hibernate when the screen was closed. The little male connector broke off, and I couldn't get the system to wake up, because the connection to tell the laptop that I had the screen up or down no longer worked. I couldn't even power it up. I had to take an ink pen and push the connector through the female end to indicate to the motherboard that I'd opened the screen before it would even turn on.

It appears that the same type of mechanism is built into the long BAR under the screen of the NV52 and somehow it can't determine when the screen is open or closed. If it detects that the screen has not been opened, it won't power up. This safeguard prevents the laptop from being turned on mistakenly while closed up in your laptop bag. Extending the screen back resets the mechanism and it should turn on. Sorry for the long explanation...

No power lights on gateway laptop model mx8711, power cord is working, does this model have a power fuse inside

Hi there.
The battery maybe faulty, remove the battery and try it on AC power only, there are no fuses that can be replaced inside the laptop.
If the laptop boots up on AC turn it back off and reinsert the battery and try to boot again, if it does not boot up then there is a problem with the battery and you will need a new one.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
