You need to clean the print head on the cartridges , please follow these steps\
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

SOURCE: Cannot recgonize ink cartridge using Espon Stylus

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR.

This is the only advice I can give you. Try the excellent forum below with your similar problems.

The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Click on link below.:

I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

My Epson Stylus NX400 won't recognize any of the ink cartridge after I performed a head cleaning and nozzle check option. There are still ink inside and they are original genuine ink. What should I do?

Did you remove the ink cartridge when you did the head cleaning and nozzle check, if so, did you touch the copper circuit chip on the cartridge? . . The chip is normally what tells the printer how much ink is remaining in the cartridge and if it cannot read this, it may not recognise that the cartridge is genuine and still has ink remaining inside. . . .You can try cleaning the chip with a soft dry cloth otherwise you may have to install a replacement cartridge. . . Epson stylus tx110 not function and their are leakage ink inside......

If you are using non-Epson nink cartridges you may need to get a replacement set of cartridges. Secondly, the ink sponge could be full. You can try a soft cloth to remove the excessive ink. Also, take a look here for the Epson utility to correct your error. Please leave positive feedback . http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

How do I replace ink cartridge?

you can use the maintenance utility on your driver to perform ink cartridge replacement. or you can perform this method should you be using it stand alone:

Remove and Install Cartridges Be sure you have your replacement cartridges handy before you begin. You must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones. Caution:
Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability.

1. Turn on the Epson Stylus NX400 Series. If a cartridge is low or expended, you see a message on the Epson Stylus NX400 Series LCD display screen. If a cartridge is expended, you must replace it to be able to print. If a cartridge is low, you can continue printing until the cartridge needs replacement.
If you’re replacing a cartridge before you see a message on the Epson Stylus NX400 Series
LCD display screen, press Setup, select Maintenance, and press OK. Then select Change Ink Cartridge and press OK.
follow on through each one of the inks and it should be good there on

I have an Epson stylus nx400 printer. I bought the ink refill kits that were recommended for it, but it's not listed on the instructions. I just want instructions on how to refill my cartridges.

Use syringre with small outlet. Fill from bottom side of ink tank. Better you don't refill ink tank. It will distort rubber seal at bottom side of ink tank. Then ink will leak. After refilling, you must reset ink counter. Do you have chip resetter?
