Re: gives numbers instead of names on main rds and...

The Garmins are designed to read the highway or interstate numbers instead of names. This is because on the markers on the side of the road, they are labeled by numbers. Here in NY it calls the Long Island Expressway I-495, the Clearview I-295, etc. If the unit is speaking the names of surface streets, it is working as it was built to.

Hi there why is it that my sat nav only allows me to enter part of address or postcode and blanks out the rest of the input keyboard. There is no setting on my device to allow all functions of the alphabet...

magellan gps is that kind.the blanking out is to prevent errors. let put it this way. 123 west pine lane . for example
type city... then street. as soon as one letter is typed. search is narrowed to a minimum to make it easier to gps to search your destination with much less errors
type p.( for pine)
then. all letters visible. are for all street names that start with p in the city you selected before. .
then p i
a few letters will be displayed.meaning that only names that start with pi will show. like picture picnic pine pin pint pine pines
when you type pine as for address..
it wil show you all streets that matches city and street
123 west pine
123 east pine lane
123 north pine lane
123 south pine rd
123 south pine ave
your selection will be 123 west pine lane.
if you dont want to strugle with that gps. i highly recommend GARMIN GPS devices

How do i get my tomtom to give street names in voice to text?

Not all sound files speak out the street names. If you would like to have the street names spoken, you need to select a voice that ends with computer. For example, the voice file selection: Simon, English UK, Computer will speak street names. But the voice file, Bonnie, English US, will not speak Street names. Dave, English US, computer will give you street names but Lori or Mandy, English US will not. Procedure to get the street names spoken: Tap on main screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on arrow. Tap on change voices. Tap (select) a voice that ends with computer. Tap select. Tap done till you reach the main screen.

When i type in an address it says no matches found. any address

start with a basic address of a main st in your city and see if it finds that. be sure to separate the street name and st,ave,rd. i.e
enter in the house number 123 done.
enter in the street name bank st done.

this should come back with a street for you. if not make sure there is a map location for the street you are trying to find. a newer neighbourhood may not be listed in your gps.

Gps will not announce street names, highway's, etc. Important note: it had been announcing this data since I bought the GPS in December but just recently stopped doing so.

You have to change the voice to a computer voice. Go to where you choose voices on the main menu Change preferences > Voice preferences > Change voice. Find a voice with the word "computer" in the name and select it. At that point you will be asked what you want to be announced. By the way, this is called "text to speech" in TomTom talk.

Takes us on backroads instead of highways.

I don't have the same model gps as you, but I can tell you that there probably is a setting in the preferences somewhere, that you can set to what preferred roads you would take. Just look around in all the menus and sub menus, it has to be there.

Keying in street addresses

To find streets that are numerical, not names, enter the address normally to start. Enter the State, City, and House Number. When it asks you to enter the street, look at the bottom of the keyboard. You will see a key marked 123. Press this key, and numbers will show up instead of letters. Type in just the numbers (25 for 25th Avenue, etc.) and hit Done. The street should show as (25th (St., Ave., etc)). Press the correct entry.

Garmin 660

The Garmin GPS' are designed to read major roads and highways this way, as this is how they are marked as you drive on them. There is no way to change this.
