Screen resolution problems

I have a similar problem to the one that someone else has posted, in the last 3 weeks, I keep getting an error on the screen - a white box appears suddenly on screen saying something like "NOT CORRECT MODE, RECOMMENDED RESOLUTION 1280 +1024 60Hz" I have tried various options in the display, settings dialog box from control panel but still getting the same problem. Also am getting "digital" and "analog" flashing in the corner just before this is happening and it sets itself to analog and then my screen goes down for 30 minutes or more at a time. I don't know if I should get a new screen or change the display settings again but I really need some detailed help on how to rectify this. Thanks in advance for your help. (My screen is only about 18 months old)

I am having exactly the same problem

I would advise that I had to contact Samsung about the issue, the monitor was still within warranty - luckily the serial number proved that when I called them. I had enormous difficulty getting Samsung to deal with the issue initially - they kept saying they would ring back within 4 or 6 or 24 hours and not once did they keep their word. When I eventually got hold of someone who could give me any real help they said they would send out a replacement monitor within 7 days. 2 weeks later and nothing had arrived. When I called to chase them they said it could now take up to 4 weeks. I advised them specifically to deliver to my office address and left the old monitor with a colleague as I was going away for 3 weeks holiday. They turned up at my home address one evening trying to deliver TWO monitors and collect TWO monitors, my husband refused to open the door or sign that he was rejecting the delivery as he knew I had clearly instructed them to deliver and collect from my office! When I got back from holiday my shiny new monitor was waiting for me there - it seems to be working fine at present - watch this space. I WILL update if anything further goes wrong :)

This is a program error, either reload the operating system or don't use standby.

How do I increase screen resolution in PC mode running Windows XP Pro?

To change your monitor's resolution

1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.

2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

3. Drag the Screen resolution slider to the left to decrease the resolution of your monitor, making text and pictures appear larger. Or drag the Screen resolution slider to the right to increase your monitor's resolution, making text and pictures appear smaller.

4. Click Apply to have the new resolution take effect.

Black spots on screen

I posted this answer to a similar question someone else had, but it looks like you have the same problem...

This sounds like your optical block is failing. This is a very expensive part to replace, so much so that it may be better to just buy another TV. Sony has had some tech problems it seems with these; here is a link to some further info:
http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/#TOC-Optical-block-discoloration-issues

There is loads of info on this page about your issue and other problems and Sony's remedy (if any) for reimbursement. Good luck.

I had a similar problem, but it would shut off randomly after making calls or texts. Someone posted a resolution on another site and it seems to have worked for me.

I affixed an adhesive silicone pad behind the battery to keep it from shutting off when you press on the back of the battery

Immune to 3 red lights

to get it to over heat you just turn it off and then stick a tooth pick in the back to stop the fan and tape it in place but once it cools down you wont have 3 reds anymore unless you keep the toothpick in for like a week

Fine drive 400 map data files

you can buy a 1gb sd card but then you have to get matching map data files, if you know someone with the same unit you could try copiying their data but it has to be the same date or you will get an error. the files themselves are too big to email or post online in most sites.

I created a repair DVD with both the firmware update and last map update issued by fine digital before closing in the US and leaving us all high and dry. there is a company called C&C wireless that sells a similar dvd for $109. I sell mine on ebay for $18 plus shipping. will be posting one there this week.

Kathryn, In the lower left, under the screen there is a row of buttons... One is labled "AUTO" have you tried pressing auto and if so does anything happen?? If not try pressing "MENU" first and then "AUTO"... What we are attempting to do is to get the monitor to accept the current settings so we can get the screen up and then deal with changing the resolution... In a Windows operating system the resolution is changed by going to "START" - "SETTINGS" - "CONTROL PANEL" - "DISPLAY" and in that window click on the "SETTINGS" tab and reset your resolution. This one might take some better communication that emails - because it would be easier to know in real-time how the monitor is reacting as you input various things... You can give me a call at 360-642-4993 or we can set-up a live chat. I'm assuming since you were able to place this post you have a second computer to work from? Bill
