Question about Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 Player
I have a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra MP3 player with a 40GB hard drive, model number DAP-HD001, that has run troublefree for a few years only to recently develop a fault regarding the Volume controls on the left-hand side of the player. The side of the key that reduces the volume still works fine, but when I try and use the key that raises the volume the player responds as if I'm still trying to lower it. Only a small area on the upper edge of the raise volume control is still responding as it should. I have no idea what might have caused this, as the last time I used the player the keys were functioning perfectly normally and it has done nothing save sit on my desk in between uses.
I took it to a third-party computer repair shop, but the man I spoke to there wasn't entirely sure what the problem was. He suggested that sending it away to clean beneath the keys might solve the problem, but his uncertainty made me unwilling to subject the player to something that might not have proved helpful and may have damaged it further, without fully understanding what exactly I was getting myself (and my mp3 player) into.
Can anyone out there please help explain what the problem may be, if it is fixable and, if so, what the risks of trying to repair it my be? I know very little about electronics and do not have the tools or the knowledge to fix it myself, but would like to know how to explain the problem and what to expect if I take it in for repairs. Since I really like this mp3 player, which is otherwise still functional, and I'm short of cash anyway, I'm not keen on replacing it unless I absolutely have to. The player itself is no longer under warranty.
Thanks in advance.
From what i can tell you would have to replace the micro switch with another one in the unit thats not used or buy a as0ia one on ebay and use the parts from that.
or get it repaired.
