NEC 1400 / IBM Infoprint 12 - Toner cartridge...

By Gary10 - usenet poster

Does anyone know if a NEC 1400/1450/1450N Laser printer toner
cartridge could be used in an IBM Infoprint 12 printer with no
problems?

It is my understanding that the two printers are the same internally,
with just cosmetic and labeling differences on the outside. I believe
NEC was making them for IBM.  I have an IBM Infoprint 12 and love it,
but the one drawback is the high cost of the replacement cartridges.
The NEC cartridges are a good bit cheaper. If I could use those
instead I would be happy.  From pictures on the web the two cartridges
look the same.

Anyone with any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Valoo

I thought my message was helpful, even if you didn't see it that way.
It's impossible to get parts for either the IBM, which does use a
Xerox engine or the NEC which uses an NEC engine.
I have to admit I haven't worked on either one because of the aforementioned
problems. Add to that mix the high price of consumables and you wonder
why anyone would buy either one. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way.
It wasn't intentional.

Gee,
Thanks for your less-than helpful message.  I am sorry you have been
fixing printers for 12 years. Too bad you can't get a better job.

From looking at your website I see that you don't have parts or repair
kits for either of the printer models I mentioned. I am talking about
the IBM INFOPRINT 12 which is not the same as the IBM Network Printer
12. And your site makes no mention of the NEC SuperScript 1450 either.
Have you ever actually worked on either of these printers?

As you said "there is not accounting for taste", but there is a little
something called courtesy and respect. From the tone of your response
I can see you have neither, so I will be sure to spread the word not
to do business with your establishment.

Thanks for showing everyone what a crappy businessman you are.

Your information wherever you got it from is extremely flawed.
The IBM uses a Fuji/Xerox engine and as we all know NEC makes
their own print engines. It's a toss up who makes worse print engines.
Some people drive Yugos (if any are still running) and love them.
There's no accounting for taste. All opinions expressed are my own.
What do I know?  I've only been fixing printers for 12 years.
