We have a sony reciever and when we turn the reciever on the woird "protect" flashes and the the reciever will automatically turn off. Please help!

This issue is usually caused by either an ungrounded plug or bad wall socket OR one or more of your speaker wires have exposed wire and may be making contact with each other or there is a break in the insulation of one of the wires between the amp and a speaker where it is touching metal somewhere.

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

When I hook up the RCA cables from the Phono to minimal volume

PHONO requires a phono-equipped receiver, which the STR-DE598 appears to NOT be. AUX will not work because it requires Line Level inout. Traditional old-school turntables put out a very tiny drastically-altered signal which needs preamplification to raise it and flatten it out for use by downstream circuitry. THAT is the job of the PHONO section in a preamp or receiver. You need to find a phono preamp or an older receiver to run the TT through. You could slave it to the STR through its AUX then.

Sony reciever model strdg800 the face does not light up

This can be as simple as poor connection on the display itself or a problem in the power supply. Look carefully at the connections for the diplay panel on the PC board attached to the front face of the unit. Specifically, look at the pins on either end. If those look grainy or have rings, then most likely the display is not getting powered. Resolder those pins and let me know what happens. That may resolve the problem.

STR-DE598

Well usually the best thing to do is unplug the unit from any power and leave it for about 2 hours to reset. that is a common problem when the unit has been played at a high volume or the speaker connection are not tight
