Re: Kenwood DP-J1070

I have been experiencing the same problem all of a sudden. Almost like it doesn't recognize that there is any information on the disc(s), regardless of whether it is a CD-R or Original disc. As I looked closer, I saw there is also a small spring connected at the top on the swing arm that pulls the CD in (behind disc indicator light) but it is not connected to anything at the other end of the spring. Just hanging there...I've never noticed it before.

1) Have you found a solution to get your CDs to play?
2) Does anyone have a clue what the other end of this spring is supposed to connect to? Or know where I can find a detailed diagram of the pieces on this part of the device?

I have a DP-R6080 or DP-R5080 5 cd changer player. Its probably 10 years old or so but recently the CD have begun to skip. Its not the CD because the new ones skip and they play fine on a single player...

The trouble lies in the laser pickup assembly, the only option you can try is buy CD cleaning kit and follow the instructions, the kit will remove any dirt that might have collected on the laser lens, If it works you will get more usable time out of the machine. The fact that you got 10 years is much better than the average, overtime the laser gets weaker until it can not track properly, so! if the cleaning fails it is far cheaper to replace than to repair.

Does anyone know where the spring on the loading arm hooks to ?

It might be best to try a free download of the service manual from this site. Go to pages 38 and 39 and find out where the spring is located in the exploded views.

Hope this helps

How do you get to the lens to clean it?

If you've never cleaned the lens, I recommend not doing so. Take it to a repair shop. The lens is difficult to access for the consumer. It is also fragile to handle and may get damaged if not properly cleaned.

My Kenwood DP-j1070 100 changer is finding cds but not playing anything - there seems to be a spring loose on the loading arm - and not quite sure how to repair - thinking this may be the source of the...

The piece of plastic that held the spring in place probably broke off like mine did. I repaired it by drilling a small hole under the bottom of the slot in the arm and connected it with a piece of solid wire.

My kenwood dp-r99 reads ee

I just took my DP-R99 out of the closet and powered it up in my garage. After a short delay it reads EE. I took it apart and the belt that drives the laser head up to the CD and pressure disk to make it spin is slipping and never raising the head enough. It looks like the belt has stretched over the years. I am now going to look for a replacement belt and the belt that rotates the carriage since it is also stretched. I will let you know for sure when I install new belts. Hope this helps...
