You may have a bad switch on the front control keyboard: HAVE THE SET UNPLUGGED
1. Remove front speaker grill (it pulls off).
2. Remove inspection plate behind it.
3. Note the bundle of wires coming down from front keyboard, follow them inside and to the right where you will find 2 plugs in line, unplug both plugs: they are marked with letters and different so you cannot plug them back wrong.
4. With keyboard now unplugged try to operate the set with the remote (remote receiver is behind front screen).
5. If set now operates with keyboard out of circuit, you have two choices: a) operate set with keyboard disconnected b) remove entire screen unit to get at circuit board behind the buttons on front of set.
I have seen a lot of these sets with defective micro switches on that keyboard.
Before you rate this information let me know what you find and if you have any questions.

hold down alt+f4 and select the icon for the program that is giving the volume icon, make a note of the name of the offending program, then press alt+f4 to close the program. Simply go to add/remove programs and remove the program if you want to, or look in its options to disable the volume display.
Look behind the right steam valve, you will have to remove the front top panel, there might be a small toggle switch, note the position. If switch is not there then it is on the black CPU box. Press the program/stop button if all lights come on move forward if not then move the toggle switch to opposite side and press program button. When all four lights are on press a button when you get the desired volume press stop, continue until buttons are programed then move toggle back to original lock position.
