This is a CD-ROM drive. CD drives will not read DVDs. You need a DVD-RW if you're going to be burning DVDs or if you're only going to be watching DVDs then a DVD-ROM drive would work.
CD ROM drive will play only 700 mb CD disks(normal CDs)...and not play DVD disks...u need DVD ROM drive to play DVDs....there is a big difference among both in it's function.
a DVD drive "may" play both DVDs and CDs....
but
a CD drive will "only" play CDs
the cd you inserted was not compatible with your cd rom. inorder to read all cds you must use cd roms that supports up 60x speed your only have 24x speed thats y it cant read cds that has above 24x.
Install the drivers from CD etc, reboot.. insert PCMCIA card and it should show up in device manager and my computer, as another "Drive" Ya should be good to go.
