I also can't get the CD drive to eject, all of the sudden. All of this just happened suddenly, last night. Please help.

overheating will cause the same problem. It does have anything to do with a virus. Laptops will run hot due to low ventilation, specially if you use it on soft surfaces, like your lap. The ps starts dropping the required power and/or voltage. It can be fixed, but everything is toasted and will have a much shorter life.... replacement time.

No the fan or HD doesnt spin. I repair 100's of these all day and this is the first time I've seen this problem. I powered it on, the bios screen flashed, then blue screen-o-death, then black. Now when you boot It just sits black screen two leds by the power button on, nothing happens. Removed all periph's (dvd,hd,batt, etc. ) same thing. Tried new HD, new P/S, re-seat ram, blewout the case... Going to try and reseat the CPU and GPU next but I have a feeling its the mobo... :(

Panasonic toughbook cf-31 "plugged in, not charging"

Are you sure that you are using the authentic Panasonic Toughbook AC Adapter? The Panasonic Part Number is:CFAA5713AM
The correct Voltage and Amperage is: 15.6 volts and 7.05Amps.
When the power supply is 3Amps then the total watts is less than half, which is enough to power the computer but not enough to charge the battery pack. Good Luck.

How to select a boot device

The Panasonic Toughbook CF51 may not be able to boot
from a USB external Hard Drive. When you press the F2
function key and go to BOOT devices, I believe that USB HDD
is NOT an option. However, when the drive is plugged-in
and you start the CF51, press the ESC key immediately.
All boot devices should be shown and you might be able
to boot from that menu. If not, then it is NOT bootable.
Good Luck!

Never light up on screen when turn it on

On any Panasonic Toughbook, if the LCD does not "Light-Up", I would try the following:

Step 1: Make sure the Toughbook is Powered Off.
Step 2: Hook-up and external LCD Monitor to the VGA Port.
(On the CF51 with the ports facing you, the VGA Port is the third connector "color blue" from the right hand side).
Step 3: Power On the external LCD Monitor.
Step 4: Power on the Toughbook.

If the external monitor works then purchase a second hand external monitor. A used 17" LCD monitor should cost $20 or less and the VGA cable (used) should cost $5 or less.

This also means that your LCD may be burnt out. If this was a CF53 or even a CF52 then it is worthwhile to repair. The CF51 in my opinion is too old but at least you can continue to use it with an external monitor hooked-up.

That is it. Good Luck and Best Regards from:

Laptop dies when unplugged

Panasonic Toughbook PC Laptops usually have
very reliable battery pack. When your unit is plugged-in
but the Power is OFF, you should see an LED light as follows:
RED FLASHING: Means the battery needs replacement.
Orange/Yellow Solid: Means battery is charging.
Solid Green: Means battery is fully charged.
NO Light AT ALL: Means that Battery Pack is missing.

There is also a battery calibration utility on all Panasonic
Toughbook PC's manufactured since 2004. This is a factory
installed software and is only present in factory units.

This software may also be downloaded as a driver from the
Panasonic Toughbook website as follows:

Check also in the bottom right hand corner under
Windows for the battery Icon. This will indicate if
the battery is charging, present or not present,
and under Windows 7+ will indicate if the battery
needs to be replaced or not.

Good Luck!

Toughbook cf-52 will not power up. when I plug in the power cord the battery light comes on but still will not power up. the batery is fairy new. any suggestion?

On any Panasonic Toughbook I would try first to unplug the unit and then take out the battery pack. Then do NOT put the battery back in but re-plug the unit. Then try turning the power back on without the battery pack. Under normal circumstances the Toughbook will now turn back on. If this does not work, try holding the power button continuously on for 12-15 seconds. If the unit is in a deep sleep this will "reset" the Toughbook and usually works.

Good Luck

I was on my Panasonic Toughbook CF 73 this morning, I had been using a wireless connection, but I could not get the wireless to work, so I plugged in the adapter and the phone line for dial up, I got...

On all Panasonic Toughbooks the following works.
Please unplug you Toughbook and remove the battery pack.
Then Please do not put the battery pack back in.
Without the battery pack, plug back in the Toughbook.
Try to start the Toughbook, it should work.
If it does not, try to hold down the power button for 12-15 seconds continuously. This should "reset" your Toughbook.

Good Luck.
