Question about Hoover U6630-900 WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum
There is an idler pulley that takes up the slack in the V belt when you pull the handle back to vacuum. Make sure it is engaging properly and the V belt is installed correctly.

SOURCE: Replace the belt
Take off the bottom plate, put the new belt on the motor shaft first, then stretch it to go over the pulley, it is hard, but it will stretch to go over it.

Brush won't turn and self propel doesn't work (by 2 users)
Posted by brucelk on May 24, 2008
I have replaced both the v-belt and the larger belt with Hoover brand belts and the brushes still don't turn properly and the self-propel function doesn't work. It seems that when I lower the handle all the way down toward the floor it works fine, but no one can vacuum this way. Is there an adjustment to belts to tighten them up? Otherwise I have to get it in to the only repair shop in town which is an hour's drive.X

1 Other User Has the Same Problem Comment by chartsell, posted on May 29, 2008 I have replaced both the belts as well. I have tightened the screws as someone else as suggested. The brush still will not turn unless you lower the handle almost to the ground. Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Vacuum. It is not so much the belts, the 2 belts are only part of the solution. The average belt change is every 4 to 6 months as a rule and to change them @ the same time. The Hoover Self-Propelled works on when the handle is lower to a comfortable position then the self-propelled drive may just need and adjustment. There is a self-propelled rod that controls the self-propelled feature and it either needs adjustment or replacement or the part that hold it may be broken but either one can be fixed. SOURCE: Replace the belt
Once the bottom plate has been removed, the motor shaft is silver, but hard to see. hook the new belt on it first. then start rolling on the top of the large black pulley to install.
