Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I am trying to save points (POIs) on predetermined route

I am trying to save POI's on a predetermined route on my nuvi 350.  I used to be able to do it on my Garmin Zumo, but can't seem to do that here.  Is there a way to solve this?  Please advise.

With the Nuvi 350 you can only add one stop to your route see Page 5 of the Owner's Manual downloadable from and also contained in a file on your Nuvi. This Limitation of Adding only one Stop is also contained on Page 4 of your Quick Reference Guide a copy of which should have been bundled with your Nuvi

What are POI and how best can I use them on my Garmin SatNav?

Points of Interest (POI) when used on SatNav can be loaded using the Garmin POI loader bundled with MapSource. They are not limited to 500 like the favourites option and you can also create sub-menus with the name of the specific CSV by placing the many in the same folder

If you want to create a POI file from you existing Garmin Database (GDB) save it as a GPS eXchange Format (GPX) which is an XML schema and these can also be added along with the excel CSV format files and if you create an indexed BMP of the same name and you can use transparent pictures instead of the default black spot.

If you use one the PNG custom symbols you must first convert it to RGB format then you must use the background color that the Garmin Routes use that is HEX #FF00FF (RGB 255,0,255)

and you must save the BMP as INDEXED do not force the colours save as Windows 8 bit of you use CMYK, RGB or Lab Colour it wont work !!

The easiest way to do this is to use Adobe Photoshop but I am sure there are other ways.

I can't get the location of a store that I know exists. I have a garmin nuvi 200w thanks

Commercial locations are gleened from advertising medium, such as Yellow Pages, etc. If the store is very small, there's a chance they won't be listed as a Garmin point of interest. You might have to search via address.

How to reroute my desination i am looking for

From browsing the manual (page 20) for your Garmin nüvi 350, it looks like you will be able to do this by creating the route in MapSource, saving it as a GPX file, and then loading it to your nuvi on an SD flash memory card.

The Nuvi 350 doesn't support custom routes. You can create waypoints (or custom POIs) for each location and manually pick waypoints as you travel, but there is no way link all the points together into a route. While you can upload a GPX file to it, it won't contain the route, just waypoints. When you pick a waypoint and tell the 350 to take you there, it's going to calculate the route based on the settings (ie, vehicle type, shortest distance, etc). It won't follow a predetermined route.

I bought Garmin nuvi 765T after having Viamichelin navigator in my car fo some years. . In the old GPS I could navigate to "city center" which was quite useful, when you travel and want to visit a place...

Check in the settings/setup options to enable all the POIs (Point of Interests) and then check if you can find the "city centers" If not then maybe the maps of this GPS device does not have this POI.

Hi It is more important to know how to add POIs. Here is a simple tip:

1. Create some directory especially for download. I use the following one: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM

2. Download and save all CSV and BMP files to that directory. You may create any subdirectory and use it to save POIs for that category.
I use: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Restaurants, C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Petrol etc.

3. Garmin's POI Loader will find all files in these subfolders and will use them to create a category.
Garmin POI Loader will search through the directory C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM and will create/transfer all corresponding POIs to your connected GPS.

4. You can remove any POI file simply by removing it from your POI folder. and re-running the POI Loader software. This POI update procedure takes about 1-2 minutes.

In summary, keep your POI files updated on your PC and run POI Loader to update your GPS or SD card via any SD card reader.

To update to the latest requires buying a map update. Too expensive in my book. Garmin does have a POI loader utility that you can get at their site. Various web sites have POI listings that can then be installed. You can also find individual POI listings for such things as all Walmarts at a company's web site.

Having problems with poi loader cant find csv file to be able to download files.unit is a garmin c31o

Here's how you get custom POI files on a Nuvi:

1. Download and install Garmin's POI Loader.

2. Create a folder on your computer, suggest Desktop, with a name like "Custom POIs". The name and location doesn't matter but you have to remember what it's called and where it is.

3. Go online and look for 3rd party POI files. Places like have dozens if not hundreds of files.

4. Select ones you want on your gps to download. Make sure you are getting the files in the correct format. Newer Nuvis use *.csv files. Not sure if the C310 does. Download your POI files into the folder you created.

5. Plug your USB cable into the GPS and your computer. Wait until the driver finishes loading.

6. Run POI Loader and follow the instructions until you get to a screen asking for location of POI files. Point it towards the folder you created. Next tell it to load the POI files. After a few seconds it should give you a message "XXXX data points successfully loaded".

You should now be able to go to POI/Extras screen and see "Custom POI Files". Open that up and your custom POIs should be there.
