Question about Samsung Weather Resistant Security Camera SSC-12C
My Samsung system that was purchased in January, 2004 stopped working. The green power light in front of the monitor blinks off and on making a click sound and the monitor (SSC-12M) screen is black. I have 3 outside cameras (SSC-12C) hooked up. I also have it hooked up to a time lapse vcr recorder (SSC-1280). Is the monitor bad, or is it the cameras? How do I find out. I never had a problem before today.
Same problem here after a close lightning strike. Fuse was good, main switch was operable. Noticed a charred spot next to a heat sink which has two diodes that appeared to be burnt. One being a zener diode, the other a simple diode. Gonna replace them and see what happens. Any suggestions?

The blinking green power light in front of the monitor - indicates 2 possibilities:
1. no video signal received (highly unlikely - 3 cameras); or
2. most likely internal monitor problem with part(s) of its circuitry and the auto-protect/shutdown is activated, hence the powering on and shutting down (blinking green power light). The clicking sound is most probably a relay inside the monitor that switches the power on and off.
A few thoughts:
1. The cameras get their power from the monitor. So if the monitor goes bad, the cameras will also be inoperable. And the same also holds true if any of the camera develops a power problem, the monitor would react;
2. The VCR is a separate unit and gets its video INput from the monitor and would not be an issue at the moment.
Things you can try:
a. Remove all the RJ11E ("Telephone" type) camera inputs and plug them back one by one just to determine if it's a camera problem and the monitor is simply reacting; or
b. Use a different monitor of the same type of input/configuration connectors.
Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

We have this system at work. It will not play back the vhs tape. I've tried to press 'vcr' button on monitor and a black screen with 'no signal' flashes. Also tried just pressing play on the vcr, still nothing. I have checked connections, disconnected and reconnected. Getting alittle frustrating. Please help with any ideas. Thanks

I have replaced many since this post in 2o13...I am a Security camera G0D now with many installs and hacks... that said the SSC-12a system with 4 cameras connected to a single SSC-12m Monitor has been working 24/7 since I installed it and still works perfect. no video loss or downgrade since I installed it.
I added infrared lights to the area and picture is crisp and viewable in almost complete darkness.
I did run new wires going to the private rooms, and down the upstairs hallway and rather than spend money on expensive cables I made my own from Cat-5 network cables, 8 wire pull and added 6 wire modular adapter.
You need to reverse the pins on the other side if you decide to make your own cables.
Why they don't all use the same pin settings and allow the use of generic one cable fits all applications is beyond me..aside from the fact a 75' cable ($83.13 when initialed initial system!!!) has a large markup, I will scan/post the amount Samsung billed for the cable and shipping when I pull Manual out, I saved all docs on my installs.
Note: I did run 150' custom cables and crimped them myself. I have no video loss however Samsung said 100' would be the maximun without boosting the signal, again more money more equipment.
Take care, back in 5 years +/-

Normally Samsung follows similar installation procedures and the differences in
their model are advance features and the length of recording time. If this could be of any help,
is a users’ manual for a 1280 hrs model. It includes installation procedures.
Alternately you can try Google for “svr 960 pdf” but when I tried it most that
I can get are German language versions.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.
