RAM Upgrade Acer ASE380-UD421A. It appears that when I use all 4 memory slots this falts the machine it beeps and won't start. Okay, the machine came with 2 - .5 gb memory boards and two other empty slots. I bought 2 - 1 gig PNY DDR2 memory boards. I put those into the empty slots for 3 Gbs of memory, the machine beeped and wouldn't start. I took the board in the slot 4 out and it worked, I had 2 gigs of memory. I put the two new boards in the first two slots and nothing in the 3rd and 4th slot, it ran good, I had 2 gigs. I put the 2 original .5 Gb boards in slot 3 and 4, started up and got nothing but beeps. I took the .5 Gb board out of slot 4, it runs fine and I now have 2.5 Gb of memory. I may trade the .5 board for a 1 Gb board and I'm sure this will work fine for 3 gigs of memory. My question would be; what's the problem? Can this machine really take 4 Gb of memory or is there a problem with some memory slots? I've seen where this has been a problem for other people. Thanks, Don

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251

Not only is there a maximum amount of memory that your computer motherboard can accept, there is also a maximum amount of memory that your operating system (OS) can accept. For instance, when you install 4GB of memory in a 32-bit Windows system (the most common version; 64-bit systems are typically used by high-end users), your system reports only 3GB or 3.5GB.
First , we can assure you, there isn't a problem with the memory. While Windows allows for 4GB of memory to be addressed, it does not equate to 4GB of physical memory. Some of the memory (regardless of how much you have installed) is reserved for use by the devices that you are using, such as a graphics card, PCI card, integrated network connections, etc, meaning it is unavailable for use as normal main memory. Upon startup, your system calculates the amount of memory needed for these devices; if you haven't maxxed out the memory in your system, it's invisible to you, and all your physical memory (the installed RAM) is available for use. However if you've maxxed out the DRAM in your system, this amount will be deducted from your physical memory, so you can't use 100% of your DRAM. The maximum memory limitation varies by operating system, For instance, the 4GB memory limitation doesn't exist in 64-bit versions of Windows.

What size hard drives can i use in a acer ase380-ud421a

This information should be fairly easy to find in your user's manual. If you don't have one, go to the manufacturers website and search for one there. Almost all manufacturers make these available online. Good luck!

How many slots for RAM in the motherboard?

If there are 4 slots, are the slots equally-spaced, or are they located as two pairs of slots, with a gap between the 3rd and 4th slot?

Some computers _REQUIRE_ RAM only in the 1st and 3rd slots, or only in the 2nd and 4th slots.

Some computers "beep" when 3 out of the 4 RAM slots are populated.

Some computers require the size of the RAM in the 1st slot to match the size of the RAM in the 3rd slot,
and the size of the RAM in the 2nd slot to match the size of the RAM in the 4th slot.

Does your computer "beep" when one stick is in the first slot, and the other slots are empty? How much RAM on that stick?

Does your computer "beep" when one stick is in the second slot, and the other slots are empty? How much RAM on that stick?

Does your computer "beep" when one stick is in the third slot, and the other slots are empty? How much RAM on that stick?

Does your computer "beep" when one stick is in the fourth slot, and the other slots are empty? How much RAM on that stick?

Does your computer "beep" when one stick is in the first slot and a matching stick is in the third slot, and the other slots are empty? How much RAM on those sticks?

Aspire ase380-ud421a cd/dvd drive stopped working

Try going to system setup by hitting Delete when you see the acer/aspire logo when you restart, then open your drive there. If it doesn't work, it is likely that your drive needs to be replaced. You could also try reseating (pulling out and putting back in) the cables inside the computer that's connected to your drive. All else fails, replace the drive.

I have a acer aspire t180 gb7z pc and i would like to know what is the maximum ram speed i can upgrade to

You have 4 slots, capable of handling 4GB of memory but CAUTION: most machines come installed with 32 bit Windows OS. To maximize memory you must have 64 bit Windows OS. With 32 bit system, its probable that 1GB will be all your machine will handle.

Want to add memory all 4 spots are used

If all of your memory slots are used, you will need to remove the memory that is currently installed in order to increase your RAM. It appears that the T180s were originally configured with 256MB, but they are expandable to 4GB. If there are 4 slots (I couldn't find any documentation with images), you can use a maximum size of 1GB modules for each slot. Just remember that if you are using a 32-bit operating system and you upgrade to 4GB of RAM, you will not be able to use all 4GB. The BIOS will report 4GB RAM, but the operating system will only see approximately 3.4GB.

Acer Aspire 9410 Won't work with two memory slots filled

Hi,
As you mentioned that you want to use Maximum memory that is supported by 9410, I would like to tell you that you have 32 bit processor in your notebook as its not always advisable to use 4 GB RAM with 32 bit processor as we have seen lots of compatibility issues.Infact in 32 bit processor windows will typically report only 3.2 GB due to a limitation of windows itself.

Cannot not add second hard drive to acer ase380-ud421a desktop

You may have the jumpers on the hard drive wrone.
Either it has to be your primary hard drive set for master and the second one set for slave or both set for cable select.
You may also have to go into the bios and turn on the secondary hard drive capability.
