What is the first thing to check after a power surge caused by a close by lightning strike?

See if everything works. Stereos & TV's are usually the first to go. Items with digital devices go next analogs after that & grounded devices last. A whole house surge suppressor costs about 50 bucks and is just a few wires to connect & at the very least wall adapter surge suppressors should be connected to everything.

What is the difference between a regular power strip and a surge protector?

A power strip is what's used for plugging in multiple appliances to one outlet. A surge protector is different in that it is designed to prevent electrical surges from too many things plugged in, bad weather or lightening. Usually things like air conditioners with heavy motors are plugged into surge protectors.

Tread mill wont turn on. it was on then while in use the screen flashed on and off then treadmill shut down and has not turned back on. tried reset button then unpluging for a while but still does not turn...

Dear Sir:
Thank you by your problem, I will help you inmediately.

Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor
is plugged into a properly grounded outlet . Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor
that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). The surge suppressor
must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation
of 450 joules. The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps.
Important: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets.

2)After the power cord has been plugged in, make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console.

3)Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill
near the power cord. If the switch protrudes as
shown, the circuit breaker has tripped. To reset the
circuit breaker, wait for five minutes and then press
the switch back in.

4)Check the on/off switch located on the treadmill
near the power cord. The switch must be in the on
position.

I hope you resolve this. Otherwise, try to reach me. Inmediately.

sincerely.

What type of AC adapter does the T790 ellictical machine needs also the voltage and polarity

Dear Sir:

Please read carefully:
Your treadmill, like any other type of sophisticated
electronic equipment, can be seriously damaged by
sudden voltage changes in your homeõs power.
Voltage surges, spikes, and noise interference can
result from weather conditions or from other appliances
being turned on or off. To decrease the possibility of
your treadmill being damaged, always use a surge
suppressor with your treadmill (see drawing 1 at
the right).
To purchase a surge suppressor, see your local
PROFORM dealer or call toll-free 1-800-366-7278
and order part number 14657. Use only a single-outlet
surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient
voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). The surge
suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating
of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of
450 joules. The surge suppressor must be electrically
rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps.
This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction
or break down, grounding provides a path of least
resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric
shock. This product is equipped with a cord having
an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding
plug. Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor,
and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate
outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

If you need Extra help please reach me inmediately.

sincerely. blessing.

Charging LED does not light up. transformer send 19VDC to plug on board. battery drains

In my case, I solved this issue by replacing the Surge Suppressor. I was measuring 19VDC where the transformer connects to the surge suppressor but not at pins 2 and 4 on the connector to the control board. If "transformer send 19VDC to plug on board" means you are measuring 19VDC at connector pins 2 and 4 (or pins 2 and 4 on models that have a terminal strip instead of a surge suppressor), this answer doesn't apply.

Possible power surge earlier today. TV will not

If your TV was plugged into a power strip with a surge arrestor, the power strip may need a reset (if there is a reset button) or replacement (those surge arrestors are only good for so many "hits". Try plugging the TV in elsewhere.
If it was not plugged into a surge suppressor, it is time to call a repairman.

UPS noise on my land-line phone

Try using a phone surge supressor independently of the UPS - many outlet strips have them as part of the surge suppressor these days.
