Check the belt idler wheel by the motor. You may have to apply a little pressure to this wheel to see if the belt stops slipping. Keep in mind that the belt may be worn or stretched

Hi. I am assuming you have the front cover off to be able to see the belt laying on the base. First thing is to make sue all bolts holding the motor assembly to inner frame are tight. Next, check your SPRINGS and their mounts...Rust and corrosion is main cause of failure. The belt goes around the water pump, transmission pully and inside of idler(tensioner) pully. Good luck! Amana Washer LW4303W. Tub spins much to freely while the agitator agitates. Could be coincidental but this problem seems like this all started after I replaced the drive belt. Washer cycles like it...

Yes, there is a brake that holds the tub while the machine is agitating. I don't have a manual handy for that model, but you probably have a plastic pulley in the center bottom of the machine. The brake is above that. There is a cam arrangement inside the pulley that will disengage the brake when in spin.

Maytag Neptue frontloading washing machine model MAH5500BWW stopped spinning (machine is about 15 years old). I opened up the back and saw the drive belt was thrown. Reinstalled it (perhaps badly) and...

i would say you have a warped main pulley, run the machine in spin, watch it early to detect any wobling in the belt should be no sideway movement. also check main pulley is tight with no lateral wobling.

Amana ALW880QAW doesn't spin and agitation is slow

I could be the pump slowly ceazing causing the belt to slip which would give a burning smell.
Motors in those units, are well build...have a service guy in but DON"t say anything about the motor.. because they will say it because you mentioned it
I sounds like you pump

More on my frozen maytag spin, motor seems to continue to run (i.e. the pump belt is turning), but the agitator belt is slipping. I assume this is the switch that is screwed down to the motor, about $60....

Okay here is another thought... are your sure that it isn't the pum that is getting tight and seizing up when you turn it in that direction?? Maybe you need to disconnect the coupling and spin just the motor and just the pump to see which it really is that is causing the problem.
Still don't think it is the brake...

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Agitator problem on ALW780QAW Amana

I have this same model and although I'm not sure what your problem could be, I do know how to remove the agitator. Get a new repair guy because you just pull up on the agitator to remove it. It is just pressed onto a cogged drive at the bottom. I read on the Internet somewhere that if you do lots of heavy loads, the agitator can slip on the metal cogged drive. So I would suggest that you pull straight up on the agitator and clean off the cogged drive and inspect the underside of the agitator to see if the corresponding grooves are worn down from slipping. You might run a cycle with the agitator out and see if the cogged drive is turning.
