This error message normally happens because of a corrupted driver. Reinstall the driver for your modem. If you do not have cd's that came with your computer go too acer's website to download here

Now if that is not the cas maybe you are incorrectly installing aol. Start up your aol. If it specifies broadband at login box change to dialup or go to setup and let aol automactically detect your modem. If problem still persists. Reinstall software when prompted make sure you select dialup. Now if you are using broadband and asking for dialup. Or go to the control panel and remove your modem driver, shut down and restart. It should put the modem back.  Any more questions post comment.

Hope this helps you

My friend, one thing at a time ...

There is a file or files on all Compaq and HP computers I have ever owned (more than 40 to date) that tells how to operate them. Find it and run it. If you can't find it, you can download the original software from Search your model. With the original software, you can find this information. Also, there are hundreds of tutorials available in print, on the WWW, at the job (your friends), and your vocational/technical night school that can help you learn about your computer. There should also be a CD or printed material that came with the device. It is good reading - really.

Your Digital Camera ... does it have a chip or a disk? Is there a USB cable for direct conenction? If a chip, and there is no spot on your Compaq to plug it in, go to the Big Box Place in your area (it is a Super Store that sells computer equipment) and get an adapter that will accept your chip and will plug into your USB port. The adapter I use is made by SanDisk.

Dial-up is a way to connect to the WWW.

Generally speaking, there are two ways to connect. Way one is Dial-up through your telephone line and requires a modem which you probably have in your computer. The information transfers over your telephone line at about 56,000 bits per second. Way two is called Broadband and might be a telephone line, DSL, FIOS or cable or a satelite dish. Information travels faster over Broadband. My connection is around 8,000,000 bits per second. Some hi speed connections are faster than 25,000,000.

Broadband typically costs $40.00 or more/month and comes with a builtin ISP. Dialup uses your existing telephone line but you will need a ISP (Internet Service Provider) to call into. AOL is one example of a dialup service though they also offer other services. Prices for that start around $10.00/month. If you are interested in e-mail, dial up is fine. If you expect to play games or view TV or other video on your computer, Broadband is a must.

Thanks for your question at

I hope I have answered your question.

I have tired to log on to the internet through my default provider and cannot. I have gotten error messages that read: Sigmatel C-major msinfo32

Sigmatel c-major is your audio driver, not your internet driver. It is possible you have a corrupted driver. I would uninstall the sigmatel driver, then get the dell disc and reinstall it. I would also remove and reload my Ethernet driver, my Wireless driver and my dial up modem driver, just to be sure.

As for the internet provider, You would need to clarify how you connect: wired (ethernet, usb) wireless (wifi, router, cellular) or dial up (aol, netzero, juno on a 56k modem and phone line). Different things can cause internet failures. For example, a cordless phone can disrupt wireless connections. An infected "winsock" can knock out all your network connections, and a bad cord or a bad jack can ruin any wired connection.

Let me know how it goes, Good luck.

Compacq Presario CQ60-419WM, can't connect to AOL.

Its true that you need broadband to use the router and then need the router for wireless networking.

Once signing on to AOL, I cannot stay connected for very long. I continually get kicked off; time and time again.

You are having a problem with AOL's connectivity program. I have had nummerous issues with AOL's software and they do not seem to be too concerned about the few people that use it but are having issues with it. Just don't go hog wild and start messing with your router settings or your network. It is an AOL problem and not your computer. If you are having no problems just running Internet Explorer and are not getting kicked off then your answer lies with them. It got so bad for me, I use IE8 and access my AOL account off the internet browser. I've had AOL work in some computers and I have been unable to get it to work in others....there is always 100 different answers as to why but AOL is unable to take the blame and would rather pass it on to your network settings. The only thing I have been able to suggest that has worked is completely and thoroughly uninstall everything aol, and reinstall the software. Now, when I say completely uninstall, I mean download a program called "Revo Uninstaller", it is free from Just put the name in their search box and it will bring it up. run that program and choose option (4) when you want to unistall something. Make sure though if the program asks if you want to reboot, you answer no. You will reboot after you get rid of everything. Just answer yes to everything the program asks.

Got a new aspire one

First, for NitrusInc, make sure that there is infact a modem, if so, then please follow my instructions below to try and fix the issue.

If it is what i am thinking is wrong. Do the following:

Go the to windows panel "Network Connections"
-In windows xp there will be a button on the left sidebar that says set up a new connection.

-In Windows vista, and 7 you will go to the network and sharing center, and then proceed to go to set up a new connection.

From there follow the onscreen instructions.

After that is done, you either:
1- Have a link to open the program that connects the dial up to the program

2- Go back to network connections, and ( i think) you double click on it and it should bring it up.

The password and username should already be entered, and hit connect, if not, enter both, then click on connect.

You should be fixed from there.

Dial-up Internet connection problem

What model do you have. Perhaps whomever you purchased it from left the modem card out of it not knowing you would need it. There are 56k modem cards avail. that stick out of the PCMCIA slot. It is always an option. You can get them for like $5 on ebay.

Signing on via AOL

Don't worry. Anything other than dial up will show up on AOL that way. If you have DSL or broadband you have tcp/ip settings. No virus. I know. I've had AOL since they were a baby. If this solved your problem or allayed your fears please rate this as fixed. So many people don't bother to rate. We live on our ratings. If you need further help with this just add a comment and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks much and have a nice day.
