Help, I just bought this computer, have gotten an aol disc, downloaded and still can't set up a connection. I keep getting error 718, and its driving me crazy, thank goodness its a short drive. Any and all hel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Now if that is not the cas maybe you are incorrectly installing aol. Start up your aol. If it specifies broadband at login box change to dialup or go to setup and let aol automactically detect your modem. If problem still persists. Reinstall software when prompted make sure you select dialup. Now if you are using broadband and asking for dialup. Or go to the control panel and remove your modem driver, shut down and restart. It should put the modem back. Any more questions post comment.

AOL 9.6 is a desktop software, it is not a web page. I am sending you a link where you can download AOL 9.6, kindly download and install it and use it without any problem.
The download link is here:
Disconnect the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program.
When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Then to use it on the Web, do this. Web Camera's have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup: After downloading and installing Skype
set it up as follows: Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card. Then click on the Video Settings. The camera, if Installed Properly, it will come up and show a video picture. Then, on the bottom of the page click save. The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and hear you.
B. Yahoo Setup: After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger
set it up as follows: Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it. Next go down to Preferences and click on it. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on "Open the call setup assistant" and follow the instructions on the left window.

And then click on "Show the Menu Bar". Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on " "Action." Go to "TOOLS" and click "Audio and Video Setting" and follow the instructions. NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy. When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
D. AIM (AOL) Messenger:
On the VIM sign-in window click on Edit. Then click on Settings Enhanced IM. Next click on Enhanced IM. Then click on Audio Video. The Audio and Video portion has drop downs so you can select the proper audio card and video camera installed in you computer. The Audi Video drop downs are Microphone Speaker Camera The audio and camera should function now. Additional information to use with VIM settings. Sigmatel c-major is your audio driver, not your internet driver. It is possible you have a corrupted driver. I would uninstall the sigmatel driver, then get the dell disc and reinstall it. I would also remove and reload my Ethernet driver, my Wireless driver and my dial up modem driver, just to be sure.
As for the internet provider, You would need to clarify how you connect: wired (ethernet, usb) wireless (wifi, router, cellular) or dial up (aol, netzero, juno on a 56k modem and phone line). Different things can cause internet failures. For example, a cordless phone can disrupt wireless connections. An infected "winsock" can knock out all your network connections, and a bad cord or a bad jack can ruin any wired connection.
right click on m computer- properties- hardware-device manager- check and see if you have anything with a yellow ! or ? or if you have anything listed under Modems. sounds liek you need the drivers installed-
What model do you have. Perhaps whomever you purchased it from left the modem card out of it not knowing you would need it. There are 56k modem cards avail. that stick out of the PCMCIA slot. It is always an option. You can get them for like $5 on ebay.
UNINSTALL AOL DISC, immediately ....It a piece of crap. Why do you need to install aol disc on your pc?? when (assuming u have high speed connection, that's why you have wireless router) you have high speed.
on your desktop you should have the IE icon right click on it and properties select connections select never dial a connection. if you dont have the IE icon on the desktop do it from within IE . hit cancel or stop to make it quit dialing select tools /internet options/connections/ select never dial a connection
