Question about Kenmore 30172 / 30174 / 30179 Gas Single Oven
Hello, and thanks in advance for your help.
Recently, I have been having trouble getting my gas oven to light. I think it's about 20-25 years old. It started with just taking forever to light, then I would have to turn it off and back on again, and now it won't light at all.
After having done a little research, I think it may be a bad igniter. It has the type that glows red hot to light the gas. It's not an expensive part, but how do I know for sure if that's the problem, and if not, how do I troubleshoot what the actual issue may be?
Kenmore model# 790.71106893
The part is in the bottom of the oven and below a metal panel, correct? If so then it is very delicate and easy to break. It will crumble and crack because it is made of a carbon. Now if you turn the gas off and gently remove the ig-niter you can ohm it and see if allows current through it. That is if it hasn't already cracked before you get it out. Do not try to light the oven with the panel removed as this will cause a sudden flash fire.
Please tell me if we are getting anywhere. Let me know what you find, Thanks Sea Breeze
