All you need to do is look at the cartridge and find the make and model number of it. Put that into google search and the information on the stylus should come up.

The proper stylus is the best you can afford. However the cartridge itself will only take certain types. To find which simply enter the cartridge make and model number into Google and see what comes up.
Actually most hi-fi buffs say it's the cartridge and stylus combined that gives the best sound, since many cartridges fit only one stylus it's often the cartridge that is the real choice. Most turntables will take a wide range of cartridges, so you pay your money and take your pick.

You look at the cartridge, determine its make/model number if visible and web search for that with 'replacement stylus'. There is no way we can tell what is installed on it.

Cables between sources and compatible units rarely need to be physically modified.

Splicing headphone outputs designed for nominal 8-ohm impedance speakers to a 47K-ohm (typical) RCA load is not a good idea but it might work on the Sherwood because this receiver does not automatically silence your other speakers when the headphone jack is installed.

There is NO other volume-controlled output to choose. Try it.

You can use any standard 1/2-inch mount cartridge, not just the original. So you can shop around and get whichever one fits your budget. Here's one place I have purchased cartridges from. You can find many other sources online, and there may be a stereo shop or musician's supply store in your area that has cartridges in stock.

The needle and the stylus are the same thing, and the cartridge is what holds the stylus, by the way.

The problem is the fact that the new receiver has no phono input. The phono input has an extra stage of amplification built in. Your receiver is working fine. You need to purchase a phono pre-amp. These run around $20. Connect the turntable to the preamp and the presmp output to any line level input on your new receiver and everything will work as expected.

any stylus should work i think radio shack sells them for pretty cheap and I know for sure that best buy sells them for cheap thats where I got mine. Best though from what I can remember is diamond tip but very coastly.
