I would like to know the pin settings for led lights. I have power, but no led lights.

    I need the same, but would prefer the full documentation on the compaq 283983-001. I purchased the board from computer geeks, and it ships raw.

    I have em'd comp. geeks but am just exploring all options before installing blind.

    I have the same problem, also purchased the board from Geeks! The solution given here with the MB manual is incorrect, this is not the correct MB. I have not looked carefully enough, but often the manufacturer of the board is on the bottom, is that the case here?

    I have done further research on this, with little success. I have discovered several things.
    1. It appears that there could be several motherboard configurations that have this same part number.
    2. The link provided by mewms_14904 is NOT the correct motherboard!
    3. The motherboard with the configuration sold by the Geeks is the EVO 310 Microtower. (desktop and other configurations of this model are not the same motherboard. The D510 does not appear to be correct either)
    4. A reference which gives just enough detail not to be ultimately helpful is the "EVO D310 Microtower Illustrated parts map", PDF document c00571576.pdf . (I am sorry, I could not get a URL link to copy and still work when I pasted it. When I searched for that specific item on the HP website, it is the only result I got.)

    I wonder if someone could help me with one other piece of information that I seem to not be able to find anywhere. What is a UX1 processor, that this motherboard calls for???

It is on connector P5. The connector has 18 pins, one being a Key. Pin one is furthest away from the key and is on the same side. So the power LED are pins 1 and 3. Pin 1 being Pos and pin 2 being ground. The other LED (not sure what is for) is pin 2 and 4. Pin 2 being Pos and 4 being ground. The power on switch goes to pins 5 and 7. Also note, in its normal operating mode pins 17 and 18 are jumped together. Hope I’ve been some help. Good luck.

I drew Comp Geeks attention to this issue and the just gave me an RMA to send it back, which I did. Discovered the that MB that I was trying to replace had leaking capacitors on it and am going to recap the original board.

You need to ensure the connector for the LEDs is round the right way (as they are not reversible)  they have a +ve and a -ve wire.
If this is the wrong way round the LEDs will not light up.

coudn't find a manual for this as this is not a seperate product,  THis is the motherboard used in the EVO 310- 510

The front of your computer is the Front Panel

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the Main wires from the Front Panel go to; is the Front Panel header.

What you are asking for is a Front Panel header pinout.

I do not have the exact Front Panel header pinout, for your motherboard.
Tell you what I do have though..........

Looking at the Front Panel header on the Ebay link, for the Winfast 760m02-GX-6LRS; the Front Panel header looks to be below the CMOS battery, and close to the Bottom edge of the motherboard.

(Motherboard installed in computer case)

Black rectangular strip of plastic, with contact pins sticking up.
Also looks to be a GENERAL set-up for all Winfast motherboards.
(COULD be wrong here)

This is what I am referencing off of,

Go to the third photo down. Here you see the Front Panel wires, connected to the Front Panel header; on the motherboard.
(Below round CMOS battery)

Note that the contact pin on the Bottom row, and all the way to the Right; is NOT being used.
(I'm using a 26 inch HDTV as my primary monitor, so it may be easier for me to see)

Now look at this Front Panel header pinout, for another Winfast motherboard,

PWRLED is for the Power On LED (Light)
PWRSW stands for Power On switch
HD-LED stands for the HarDDrive activity LED (Light)
RESET stands for a Reset switch, IF USED.

Note where it has a Positive ( + ) sign, next to the pin for the PWRLED.
This is the pin the + wire from the Power On LED connects to.
It is the SAME for every LED that connects to the Front Panel header.

Let's number the contact pins, to make the explanation easier;
Starting at the Left side, Top row; going towards the Right;
Pins 2, 4, 6 and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

Starting on the Left side, Bottom row; going towards the Right;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Pin 2 is for the Positive wire.
Pin 1 is for the Positive wire
If the LED's are dim, (PWRLED, and HDD LED), OR; the LED's do not light up, switch the wires around.

(Pin 9 is N/C.........Not Connected. This is probably a 5 Volt test point, that was used by the factory)

There is a method you can use though, and find out what the individual contact pins are, in the Front Panel header;

Use an LED with two wires

Computer (Power Supply) plugged into power, go along the top row, and touch two pins at a time, with the two wires of the LED.

Example; Pins 2 and 4, as shown in the pinout.
Did the Power Supply come on?
No?

Go to the next two pins. Try again.
When the Power Supply comes on, you naturally know that is the two contact pins; for the Power On switch.
DO NOT touch them again. In fact connect the Power On switch wires.

Power Supply on, computer running;
Now go back along again;
1) LED light blinks?
You have the HarDDrive activity LED, contact pins.
2) LED light stays on?
You have the Power On LED, contact pins.
3) Computer restarts?
Those are the Reset switch, contact pins.

4) Nothing happens?
May be contact pins for a speaker, or contact pins that are not used.
(Speaker is for hearing BIOS Beep Codes.
You have a Piezo buzzer, to the Left of the CMOS battery; for that)

Post back in a Comment, as to the results.

If possible, I would like to ask upon you; to post the Front Panel header pinout; when you find what it is.

That way when a person in the future also has this same problem; the solution will be posted on the internet, for them to find.

Need IBM motherboard 29R8260 front panel controls

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What you need is a Front panel header pinout.

This I do not have. What I do have, is a simplistic method that may allow you to find out, what the pinout is.

Looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the ThinkCentre M51, (It also uses this mobo), the Front Panel header is to the right of the Ram Memory slots. (Processor to the left, Ram Memory slots at the Top)

Looking at the Ebay link, there are three views available. Click on the middle view. In the view photo the Front Panel header is the black rectangle below the Yellow ram memory slots.

Two rows of pins.
Power Supply plugged into power, use an LED light with two wires.
Go across the top row, and touch the first set of two pins next to each other.

No? Go on. Touch the next set of two pins. I'm willing to bet the third set of two pins is the Power On switch pins.
(Could be mistaken, however)

The contact made should be brief. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.
Once the Power Supply comes on, wait a minute, then start testing the other pins.

LED light blinks? You have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.
LED light stays steady? You have the Power On LED pins.

Be aware however, that there may be 3 pins for the Power On LED.
Two Positive ( + ) pins, and one Negative ( - ) pin. This is for a dual color Power On LED. (Turbo mode/ Regular mode)
This would mean touching the first pin, or second pin, in the set of 3 pins, and the last pin in the set.

Computer restarts? You have the 2 pins for a Reset Switch.
(Do NOT touch the Power On switch pins again, or the computer may restart)

Not what I would like to state. Would like to state the exact pinout.
Perhaps if you get this figured out, you might take the time to post the pinout. Crude is fine, I can 'clean it up'. This way 100's to 1000's of people may be able to use your findings. Think how many people you would help.

You didn't state the model number, unless that is it in the problem heading, STAX2517C2.

IF, this is the Model Number of the Northgate Desktop PC, it is supposed to come with a Foxconn/Winfast K7S741MG-6L motherboard,

Looks like the Front Panel header on the motherboard, is an 9-pin unit.
(Down by the round CMOS battery, black plastic rectangular header, 9-pins.
In the photo it is down to the Bottom/left corner )

F PANEL 1, or FRP1, or FP1 ]

Motherboard sitting in your computer case, the Front Panel header is sitting Horizontal, and parallel to the bottom edge of the motherboard.
There are two rows of pins.

4 across the Top row; 5 across the Bottom row.

The best method is to take an LED light with two wires, and touch two contact pins at a time.
I would go across the Top row first.

Start with the first two pins. Then the second two pins.
When you touch the correct two pins, the Power Supply will come on.
(So will the computer)

You now know that this is the two pins for the Power On switch.
Computer running do not touch the two pins again.
Now touch two other pins.

When the LED light blinks, you know you have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.
If the LED stays on you have the Power On LED pins.

If the computer restarts you know you have the Restart switch pins.

This is what I have that seems to be close, for a Front Panel header pinout for your motherboard.

HOWEVER, I would like you to connect the two pins to the Power On switch first. Just those two.
If these are correct there is a 99 percent chance the others are too.

A) Using an LED light will not harm your motherboard. If the computer isn't running, (Power Supply not on), then you will not be touching any 'live' pins on the motherboard.

Just make a brief contact, with the wires to each set of 2 pins. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.

Pinout I have;

Looking at the Front Panel header - Top row;
Starting at the Left side, coming across to the Right side;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. Blank spot -> No pin.

Bottom row;
Starting on the Left side, coming across to the Right side;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED (Light)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

C) No pin 10. Blank spot.

D) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

F) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected. Probably 5 Volts (DC), and reserved for the factory.

Would appreciate hearing back if this pinout worked for your motherboard.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.

Specifically we are talking about the Reset switch, Power On switch, HarDDrive activity LED light, and Power On LED light.
Speaker pins for an onboard speaker< (BIOS Beep Codes), may be also included in this header.

What you need is a Front Panel header pinout.

I'm looking at the motherboard now,

The silkscreen print next to the Front panel header, is fuzzy. Probably is on your motherboard also.

Looking at the motherboard installed in the computer case, the Front Panel header is two rows of pins.

The pins have a white rectangle silkscreened around them. To the left of these two rows of 10 pins, is another small rectangle in white.
These are for IrDA,
(6 pins. Two rows of 3 pins)

Suggest leave them alone.

There are 20 pins. Two rows of 10 pins for the Front panel header.
Willing to bet Pin 1 is the pin to the upper Left corner.
Pin 20 is the pin at the bottom Right corner.

Coming from the Left side, across the Top row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19.

Coming from the Left side, across the Bottom row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20.

It looks as though this is just the old Front Panel header setup, used for a lot of old motherboards.

For example, I can just about make out the pins for the HDD activity LED light.
Bottom row, come from the Left side.

The first three pins, which are pins 2, 4, and 6, are for the Keylock.
DO not connect any wires to them!
The next two pins, 8 and 10 are for the HarDDRive activity LED.

Top row; Pins 5 and 7 look like they are for the Power On LED.

HOWEVER, let's use deductive reasoning based on intelligent thought.
Or in otherwords, 'Wing it'.

All you have to do, is get one of those LED lights that have two wires.
This will be your test unit.

Go across the Top row. Touch TWO pins at a time. For example Pins 1 and 3. No power? Touch pins 5 and 7. No power?
(Shouldn't be)

Touch pins 9 and 11, and so on. Keep going across the Top row.
No good? Go across the bottom row, BUT SKIP pins 2 and 4.

What will happen? When you finally touch, the two pins for the Power On switch, the LED light will light up, and the Power Supply will turn on.

With the Power Supply on you can go back, and see which two pins keep the test LED light ON. These pins will be for the Power On LED.

Test LED light blinks? You are touching the pins for the HarDDrive activity LED.

Windows is running, and you touch two pins, and Windows restarts?
You have the pins for the Reset switch.

Speaker pins will be FOUR pins in a row, and by finding the rest of the pins, you will know which ones these are.

BY using the LED light you will harm NOTHING. In fact you could use a jumper wire. If you touch the wrong pins, NOTHING will happen. If you touch the two pins for the Power On switch, the Power Supply will come on.

Shock Hazard:
The VOLTAGE is 5 Volt DC.
In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries store 3 Volts DC.

In otherwords; NONE.

Do not know what the Front Panel header pinout is.

(Front plastic part of computer tower is the Front Panel.
Area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the wires (Cables) from the Front Panel connect to, is the Front Panel header )

CAN see by clicking on - View full size image - that the Front Panel header is to the Top Left corner of the motherboard, by the CMOS battery.
(View of mobo is upside down, in relation to how it actually sits in the computer tower case)

Shows me it is just the normal two rows of contact pins used in a LOT of desktop computer mobo's. (MOtherBOard)

If it were I, I would use one of the LED lights connected to two wires, and touch across each two sets of pins.

Looking at the motherboard as it sits in the computer case, there is a row of pins on Top, and a row of pins on Bottom.

In your mind start at the LEFT side of the pins at the TOP.
Number them from Left to Right.
Example, Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Now number the pins on the Bottom, from Left to Right,
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Computer plugged into power, touch the two wires of the LED light, to Pins 1 and 2.
Computer doesn't start? (Power Supply turns on)
Go to the next set of pins.

I am willing to bet Pins 5 and 6 turn the Power Supply on.
No? Keep experimenting.

What will happen if you touch the WRONG pins?
N-O-T-H-I-N-G
You will NOT hurt the motherboard.

When you get to the correct pins, the Power Supply will turn on.
These pins are for the Power On switch.

Now go back through the pins with the Power Supply on, but DO NOT touch the pins that turned the Power Supply on.

When the LED light STAYS on, you have the pins for the Power On LED light.

If the LED light BLINKS, you have the HarDDrive activity LED light.

If Windows starts to load, and you touch the Restart switch pins, the computer will restart over again, and Windows will load again.

(IF this computer has a Restart switch. I do NOT use one, even for the older computers. Just press CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys at the SAME TIME, to restart the computer, or use the Task Manager option)

One pin left all by itself? That is for 5 Volts, and only used by the factory. Leave it unconnected.

There may also be a blank spot on the Front Panel header, where it looks like a pin is missing. This is the KEY pin, and is not used.
It is just to orient where the other pins are.

Worried about getting shocked?
There may be a small spark, as you connect the wires, I will gramnt you that.
But the voltage is 5 VOLTS DC.
In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries produce 3 VOLTS DC.

The harmful AC voltage is contained in the metal enclosure, of the Power Supply. Can't get you unless you pour water on it close up, or stick a metal rod through one of the ventilation holes, in the Power Supply enclosure.

The eMachines T3302 desktop computer, uses an FIC K8M-800M motherboard.
(First international Computer, Inc.)

Where those wires go on the motherboard, is termed a Front panel header.

The Front Panel is the plastic front bezel of your computer.
(Where the Power On button is, Power On LED light, and so on)

Looking at the motherboard with the Processor to the Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right, the Front Panel header is at the bottom right corner, and over to the left.

Look at the jumper block in the bottom right corner. Right in the corner.
This is the LED type selector, jumper block.
Has 6 pins.
3 across the Top, 3 across the Bottom.

(This jumper block is to set whether you are using a Power On LED light, that has Dual Colors, or a Single color.
The default setting of the jumper on the block, is set to use a Dual Color LED light, for the Power On LED)

Move to the left of this jumper block. The Front Panel header is to the left of this jumper block.

(FIC terms it a Front Panel Block Connector)

It should be White in color.
Is right against the bottom edge of the motherboard. (Parallel to the outside edge of the motherboard)

Has two rows of pins sticking up.
5 across the Top.
4 across the Bottom.

The pins are numbered from the Right, going towards the Left.

(From the Power On LED jumper block, towards the Front Panel header)

On the Top row going from Right, towards the Left,
Pins 1 ,3, 5, 7, and 9.

On the Bottom row going from the Right, towards the Left,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the Power On LED light.
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
(Green)

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for the Power On switch.
Pin 5 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
(Black)

[Although it really doesn't matter which way the wires go. It's a SWITCH]

C) Pins 2 and 4 are for the HarDDrive activity LED.
Pin 2 is for the Positive wire ( + )

D) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Reset switch.
(IF used)

If any of your LED lights are dim, after attaching the Positive wire for each LED, it's because the Positive wire is on the wrong pin.

in *********** board where the reset & power botton is connected same place you can find HDD LED for Harddisk and Power LED for power, please be carefull with the sign designation about (+) and (-) it is indicated in the board and pin.

Look on your motherboard. the pins have very small writing so use a strong lite. Your motherboard manufactures web site should have the manual. The manual will give pin locations and how to install.

Connecting the case to my motherboard


Pin arrangment is Industry Standard Architecture.....

translated this is top row left to right ...... power led, power switch no connection

Bottom row is left to right........ hard drive, reset, no connection

Note: not all computer cases have a reset button, also the connectors for power led and hard drive produce a light, if the light does not show, power off the pc swithc the cable rooun 180deg on the connector pins and reconnect.
