SubZero 532 Ice Maker Makes One Large Block of Ice

My Subzero 532 Ice Maker seems to make ice just fine but the ice drawer is accumulating excess water which subsequently freezes all the crescent shaped ice together into one large unuseable block of ice. This seems to be a reoccuring problem (every 1.5 to 2 years). How can I fix it myself?

The trick to putting the drawer back correctly is to ensure that the auger pushes into the motor coupling. To achieve this you will have to put the drawer in place and gently push it in while turning the auger inside the drawer by hand. You will know when it has clicked in.

SOURCE: SubZero 532 frig lights out

There are two door switches one for fan and the other for the lights. With the compressor running, there are two so yu need to make sure it is the refrigerator and not the freezer, open the door and press the right switch and listen for a fan. The left should be your light switch and the problem is generally in the switch, on rare occasions there is a failure of bi-metal safety switch part number 4200850. One very rare occasions you may have a wiring proble. If you go to there is a showroom locator tab on the top right corner, click it and you will go to a locator page which will get you to your local parts didtributor.

SOURCE: 532 ice maker works, but dumps water into ice container with ice.

Do you still have a manual or can tell me the watts power consumption of the 532?

I'll look into your question. Sounds like a sticking icemaker water valve, but I'll have a look.

Good day,
No, a new water valve should solve that problem. The diaphram in the valve is not completely closing.
Very common problem.

Did u check condenser on the top behind the grill? If it's clean, check unit for evaporator freon leaking. Light....Possibly bad bulbs behind that plastic light cover or light switch - one of them located on upper portion of door frame.

Large ice block is forming behind the fruit drawer.

i assume you have a model 650 or 550. Your drain line has clogged then frozen. You need to defrost the ice then clear the drain line. I usually knock a majority of ice away then defrost the rest. Once you have defrosted the line you need to clear it. I use high pressure nitrogen to blow them out, but a turkey baster will do just fine. Fill the turkey baster with water, disconnect the drain line from the drain trough. While holding the baster into the drain line squeeze the bulb to force the water into the line. It may take a couple of tries. Reconnect the drain to the drain trough and you should be all set. If you let this go too long the insulation may be saturated and you will have to have a tech install a drain tube heater kit. If you have questions call the factory at 800-222-7820 or go online to the locator page:

Sub zero 532: noise increasing.

We have the same SubZero unit and the water leak is the ice maker line or the pan that catches condensation. If you unscrew the panel at the bottom, you will be able to take the pan out and see if the water is from there. If it is from the ice maker line (which was plastic on ours), you should fix this right away as we didn't and we ended up having a $10,000 flood that ruined our hardwood floors. Also, the increased motor noise happened to us as well, but when we had the motor replaced, it is not much quieter.

Subzero model 532

Fernando is right! Now I will put it in girl terms. The lip of the drawer (lip is at back of the drawer) rests on a white plastic thing. But when you take the drawer out completely, the white plastic thing retracts and just looks like the back of the fridge. So when you go to put the drawer back in, you see nothing to put the lip on. So pull the white plastic thing (it looks like a white plastic rectangle about the size of an envelope) forward and then hook the lip onto it and gently pull the white "augur" (the thing that senses when it's time to make ice) down and slide the drawer back in. My son figured this out from reading Fernando's solution. What a relief! Our model is a 561.
