Your radio is picking up interference from the ignition. There are various means of suppressing this, from special ignition leads, to capacitors at the distributor and igniter. You would be best to take the car to an auto electricians' and ask them to fix it, as they have the testing equipment.

SOURCE: After jumping a dead battery

I have seen the PRNDL switches on these vehicles cause all kinds of problems including erratic radio operation, engine stalling, transmission erratic shifting, engine control fault codes, etc. I had one that kept losing the programmed stations on the radio and the radio would cut in and out while driving. I have not figured out exactly how the PRNDL switch fits in to all of this with the radio. I believe it is shorting the class 2 data circuit or something. I would look there for a solution to your problem.

98 ford escort ticking never loses power nor sluggish.pulled each each sparkplug ticking never stopped.what could it be

You mention a "ticking" sound,,is this from the top or bottom of engine..?

Does the ticking go on acceleration or increase with engine speed..?

A ticking noise from the top usually indicates camshaft/valve noise..

Run your engine until at normal temperature, then turn off and leave for 5 minutes for oil to settle..

Make sure your car is on level ground and check your oil level..wipe dipstick and check it again, make sure you push the dipstick all the way in an re check oil level. Top up if necessary.

The best thing to do is remove old oil filter. Drop the old oil and fit a new filter, top up with new oil, run the car and check oil level again, top up if necessary.

Low oil and old oil can wear thin and cause ticking noise from top of engine, and will also NOT PROTECT your engine...oil is the blood of your car, check levels weekly at most and change every 12 months or as recommended by your car booklet.. Use the BEST oil you can afford.

Carried my 2005 free star to local shop and they said they thought it was a lifter or a rocker arm problem it makes a loud knocking sound..

Takes about 1 1/2 hours to figure it out. I can remove both valve covers in about an hour. 15 to 20 minutes to see which one is bad, if one of them are bad. Lifters and rockers arms usually make a ticking sound. Knocking is usually the piston rod. could be bearings at the crank or the wrist pin at the top of the rod. I've seen valve springs broken and only cause a ticking noise.

My 2005 ford focus is running at a very high idle, or a vacuum leak. How can I tell which one it is? And how hard or how much will it cost to fix.

Quite possibly a vacumme leak. check all around intake manifold for vac hoses disconnected and /or cracks where they connect either to manifold or trace to end location and chec there also

When I accelerate in my ford focus the stereo seems to increase in volume. I bought the focus second hand and just wondered if the last owner has set it up to do this or if it is a fault.

There is no problem with the radio. Quite a few ford radios can be set up so the volume increases as your speed increases to compensate for road noise.

While driving my 1.6 focus the speedometer goes to zero and the radio volume goes low. Whats up?

I can give you most of your answer and it depends on the Radio. Ford has a speed-compensated Radio that will adjust the volume of the Radio to the speed of the car. This feature means you will not have to adjust a radio down at a stoplight or when going to a drive-thru.

Then when the car speeds up and engine and road noise increase, so does the volume on the Radio. So you will not have to adjust the volume of the Radio when you drive.

You need to fix the speedometer to get the radio to work correctly. You probably have a sensor connector or the sensor itself making the problem. Go to an Autoparts store and get a sensor and it will probably work fine.

My 2000 1.6 ford focus hesitates when driving from a standing start

Is this when the engine's cold? check the auto choke

when it's warm -air ingress to inlet manifold - listen for air noise - you will also notice that it will hesitate when you accelerate
also check if servo vacuum is affecting the engine speed - when idling pump brakes if it is this then speed increases
Air intake sensor unit Now you need to get a garage to plug into the ECU [car computer]

Engine runs loud at certain speeds

It sounds like someone has been rough on the car. Your transmission may almost be shot, or you need a flywheel repair kit. If you get a flywheel repair kit, you can save your transmission. A flywheel repair kit is cheap. But a transmission aint cheap at all.
