More than likely, the heater element is overheating and the overload switch is turning it off. It could just be a case that the heating element needs cleaning. As they do become clogged with dust and lint, because they take in cool air at floor level, heat it and send it back out. You didn't mention who the manufacturer of your electric fireplace is, but they all work just about the same way (badly, most of the time). Turn OFF the Master On/Off Switch, unplug the fireplace from the wall and leave unplugged for 12 to 15 minutes. Now, would be a good time to clean the interior, if you want to under take it. Plug the heater back in and turn the Master On/Off switch to the On position. Turn ON and set the heater control. If it returns to normal operation, the problem is solved. If the unit continues to have to be reset (if it's a Dimplex) turn the Master Switch Off, unplug the unit and contact Dimplex USA, Technical Service at 888-346-7539 for more information.

mine just did the exact thing. I took it apart and blew it out with an air chuck and it works like new again. a couple of weeks ago i used a vaccum and it work a couple of days and then did it again. The squirrel cage and heat elements were filled with dust. It was not easy taking apart but now i know to only take the bottom off. thanks

go to ebay and put in electric fireplace heater parts, the flame motor is around 20 bucks, and the heater element around 50 bucks Good luck

you have a problem with combustion.unit is not burning properly you should turn unit off and call a pro the life you save may be your own

This an easy fix. What you must do is remove the dust from the pilot safety. I use rust buster from ace hardware to gently flush the hole. If ther is no hole just shoot a tiny drop or 2 into the pilot burner where the flame comes out. Blow it out (I use a piece of tubing). The problem is the dust drops the pilot flame to a point where it won't heat the thermocouple hot enough to jold the magnet and after 30 minutes she quits.
