HP Laserjet 1020: False paper jam

Every time I try to print now with this printer, it tells me there is a paper jam.  There isn't, but I follow the instructions anyway.  The problem recurs.

I have the same problem. I can print one sheet of paper, after which I get a "paper jammed" message. I've tried varying the amount of paper I put in, aligning it better etc., but it makes no difference. It's a great scannerr and fax, but useless at printing.

Hp false paper jam error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Culprit could be a worn (or non-functioning) pick-up roller. Most printers will report a paper jam even though it hasn't actually fed any paper.
Good Luck.

It's most likely a sensor problem. I suggest you exchange your printer.

Either there is a small fragment of paper still hidden in the carriage somewhere, or the sensor is defective. If you can't seem to locate the problem, it would be best to contact Canon directly and ask technical service for assistance.

Paper or specialty media misfeeds
These are possible solutions if paper or specialty media misfeeds or skews, or if multiple sheets feed or stick together.
Try one or more of the following:
Check paper condition

  • Use only new, unwrinkled paper.

Check paper loading

  • Load a smaller amount of paper into the printer.

  • Load paper with the print side facing you. (If you are not sure which side is the printable side, see the instructions that came with the paper.)

Remove each page as it is printed

  • Remove each page as it exits, and let it dry completely before stacking.

Adjust the paper guides

  • When using media less than 8.5 inches wide

  • To rest against the edges of the paper or media, making sure it does not buckle

Printer won't print. Flashing red light. No paper jam and ink cartridges are ok. Please help!!

Per the manual, it's 99.9 % one of these causing the issue. The other .1 % should take it back or get a new one.

The printer requires attention. Try the following:
● If the printer is connected to a computer, check the computer screen for
instructions. If the printer is not connected to a computer, check for the following
problems:
– Top cover open
– Out of paper
– Paper jam
– Print carriage jammed or stuck
– Print cartridge inserted incorrectly
– Incorrect print cartridge installed
● If you are unable to solve the problem by using the instructions above, turn off the
printer and unplug the printer's power cord. Wait one minute, then plug it in again.
Turn on the printer.

Try adjusting your paper tray. If you have the tray that adjusts from legal to letter it sometimes gets wiggled to some place inbetween. Just push it back into the letter position.

Says 'Paper jam' but no paper in tray

You may wish to try checking the paper path of the printer. Open the back door of the printer where you would open it to let an envelope come out, and check underneath the rollers in the main cartridge area. Sometimes, small pieces of paper may get stuck and it trips the paper jam detection circuit. As this is an inkjet printer, there shouldn't be too much going on in there as it's not as complex as a laser printer is.

Remove the printer completely from your computer. Reboot. Re-install the printer.

Try to print again.

It sounds like your print heads are shot.
