Hello, It sounds like you have a capacitor problem. It was about two years ago that some bad capacitors from china was purchased by several of the big monitor manufactures. These capacitors almost like clockwork start swelling after the monitor is about a year to a year in half old. The biggest manufacturer that this happened to was Gateway and you can do a Google search on just about any (FPD2185W Gateway Capacitor Problem) and the internet is full of unhappy people. They were not the only ones that purchased these bad capacitors. There are alot of how to guides on replacing them yourself if you have a little mechanical knowledge and a soldering iron. You can also find several guys on e-bay selling the power inverters with new caps or offering to fix yours. Just go to e-bay and type in Power Inverter for monitors and you will see. If this is your problem the monitor will get worse. They start not powering up after you restart the computer. But the power button will still be lit up. Then after a while it will finnaly come on. I hope this info helps at least point you in the right direction for research.
Have a great weekend
