How do i setup my wireless linksys model wcg200?

The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
a. SSID - this is the name of your wireless network
b. SSID Broadcast - an indication if your SSID is showing on the list of networks available
c. Wireless Security - serves as the password for your wireless network

To check the wireless settings on the Linksys router, follow the steps below.
Checking the Wireless Settings on the Linksys Router
Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Mac computer to access the web-based setup page, click here.
Step 2:
When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Wireless.
4678-009.png Step 3:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID). If it's still set to "linksys", change it to something unique then click 6-4680.jpg NOTE: Take note if SSID Broadcast is Enabled or Disabled. If it is Enabled, it means your SSID will show among the list of wireless networks available when any wireless device will search for a network to connect to. If it is Disabled, it will not be visible.

4678-003.png
Step 4:
Click the Wireless Security subtab and take note of the current Security Mode.

If Security Mode is set to WEP:
4678-007.png If Security Mode is set to WPA:
4678-013.png You can change your WPA shared key if you want to personalize it. It should be a minimum of eight and a maximum of 63 characters long.

How do I change my wpa key on my linksys WRT54G

Here's a information page on routers and setups. http://www.comone.ca/Support/WirelessSecurity/tabid/80/Default.aspx
This is an emulator page for your router - it basically lets you walk thru the pages like a real router but it's online just to show you how it works. http://www.comone.ca/Support/WirelessSecurity/tabid/80/Default.aspx

Click the wireless tab at the top, then below click security tab, security mode click enable, then it will offer choices of the type of security, select one and the next window will ask for key information - wep is common and easy to use. Each time you select and change it, the old settings are erased.

I have a Belkin wireless G Router and have just purchased a Linksys Wireless-N USB Adaptor WUSB300N. Currently my new desktop fails to recognise the Belkin Router with or without the adaptor. Does the...

Connection and signal strength depends upon the router. Just go through the settings on the wireless router, try changing the wireless channels. And also change the wireless mode on the router to 802.11g.This should be the compatible mode for your wireless adapter. to do this first connect the router with the help of an ethernet cable .Please follow the below steps:
1)Using your Internet browser, you can access the Router’s Web-Based
Advanced User Interface. In your browser, type “192.168.2.1” (you do
not need to type in anything else such as “http://” or “www”). Then
press the “Enter” key.
2)
You will see the Router’s home page in your browser window. The
home page is visible to any user who wants to see it. To make any
changes to the Router’s settings, you have to log in. Clicking the
“Login” button or clicking on any one of the links on the home page
will take you to the login screen. The Router ships with no password
entered. In the login screen, leave the password blank and click the
“Submit” button to log in.
3)
Clicking on the header of the “Wireless” tab will take you to the
“Wireless” header page. From this page, the Router’s wireless radio
can be enabled or disabled (the default setting is enabled). Under the
“Wireless” tab, there are links that allow you to make changes to the
wireless network settings.
4)
Your Router can operate in three different wireless modes:
“g and b”, “g only”, and “b only”.
5)
Change the wireless channel to 9 or 11
Click on save changes once you have done this
This should work,if it doesnt work let us know the exact problem in detail.

Changing router settings from 802.11G to mixed w/802.11B

Hi,

Switching the wireless mode is easy, and, if you choose "mixed," the other computers in your home can continue to use the G mode unaffected. How you adjust the mode depends on the brand of router. Since Linksys is the most common, here is how it works on a Linksys router:

1) Open your web browser (IE, Mozilla, etc.)
2) Type the web address 192.168.1.1 (default for Linksys routers).
3) You should be asked for a username and password. The default for Linksys is username "admin" and password "admin" OR username "admin" and password [blank].
4) You should then see the Linksys setup screen. The tabs across the top include Setup, Wireless, Security, etc. Click on Wireless.
5) Pull down the menu next to "Wireless Network Mode" (which shold be set to "G -Only" and choose "Mixed." Then click "Save Settings."

This should allow your B-capacle Palm to use the network without a password while still allowing your encryption-capable computers to use the G mode.

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Connecting a laptop.

on connecting your laptop wirelessly, it is best if you set the router to have wireless security first.

accessing the router's setup page:

open IE, then type http://192.168.1.1 on your address bar, it will ask you for a username and password, thats both admin (these steps will depend if you have changed the settings on the router)

once opened, go to the wireless tab, change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) to something esle instead of Linskys, like your name perhaps. then set the channel to 11ghz and hit save settings.

now look for a Wireless Security SUBTAB, enable to wireless security, under security mode select WPA-Personal (PSK) set your algorithm to TKIP and make up a password on the blank space that says Passphrase / Pre Shared Key , that will be you wireless security code. now hit save settings.

in connecting your wireless laptop, make sure the wireless adapter on the device is enabled and it will automatically locate the wireless network and wil ask you for the security code, once you place it, you will get connection.

Setting up Wireless Security ? BEFW11S4

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. Please follow these instructions to secure your wireless network. Accessing the Router 1. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP) 2. When "Internet Explorer" opens type http://192.168.1.1into the "Address" bar and click on Go 3. The "Enter Network Password" window will appear. 4. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK Setup Page Security Options When you arrive at the Setup page, you'll see the bulk of your wireless security features. There are three things you're going to want to set on this page: 1. SSID a) Delete linksys from the "SSID" field b) Input your own unique SSID. We general recommend something easy to remember, but secure enough to where people would not be able to guess it easily. Sometimes your best bet is to use your last name and add some numbers. a) Click Apply then Continue 1. SSID Broadcast (Firmware 1.42.7 and above only) a) Click No on the Allow "Broadcast" SSID to associate? b) Click Apply then Continue 2. WEP a) Click Mandatory for the "WEP" Option b) Click the WEP Key Settings button c) When the "Wep Key Settings" Window appears, change the option from 64 to 128* NOTE: 128 bit WEP may not work on non-Linksys products due to its lack of an IEEE standard d) Enter a passphrase** that is different from the SSID. Try to make it alphanumeric; instead of password, use password5532. Once the key has been Generated copy the key into a notepad document and copy that file onto a floppy. **NOTE: The passphrase will not work with non-Linksys products, so you will need to use the passphrase that you copied onto floppy. e) Click Apply then Continue f) Close the window g) Click Apply then Continue on the setup page. Setting up Station MAC Filter The Station MAC Filter option is a very good security feature that has been added to Firmware 1.42.7 and above. This option denies all wireless clients except those listed. To implement this feature please follow these instructions: 1. From the "Setup" page, click Advanced 2. When the "Filters" page opens, click on the Wireless tab 3. Make sure all wireless computers are setup to the router, and are currently able to access the internet. Once this is done, click on the Active MAC Table button. 4. Move the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window and click on Edit MAC Filter Settings on the main window. 5. When the "Wireless Group MAC Table" opens, go to the task bar and click on the Wireless Active MAC Table so that window appears. 6. With the two windows side by side enter the MAC Addresses from the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window into the Wireless Group MAC Table. - NOTE: When you enter the MAC Addresses do not include the dashes, and do not click "Filter" 7. Click Apply then Continue in the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window. 8. Close the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window and the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window 9. On the Main window Enable the Station MAC Filter setting.
